What a nice surprise! Very good food, reasonable prices and super friendly servers. We don't live in this area, but would come back if given the opportunity!

The food is ok the pizza taste nothing like Chicago pizza. I was born and raised in Chicago and this pizza isn't it. Its ok if you like having your pizza served on top of a loaf of bread. I have gone here over the years and every time I order my food: appetizer, salad then main dish, I get it all served to me at the same time. So I wait for a half an hour then I have to rush ant eat so my food doesn't get cold.

We hadn't been to Selma's in years so we thought we would try it again. The service was horribly slow, servers more interested in their own conversations then refilling drinks or pulling dirty plates (sorry- used to be a server so I am really picky about this one). We split a salad and pizza. Craft beer selection was good but the food was blah. I doubt if we will be back again.

Come here number of times and this is perhaps one of my top favorite pizza locations on the West Coast. You can order the authentic Chicago style pizza which is about an inch thick of toppings. Absolutely amazing They have a great selection of beers as well as toppings for the pizza. The pricing is a little bit high. Expect to spend about 25 for the pizza and then about six or seven dollars a beer The service is good. While it's not great it's also not bad. It's definitely a place to go to when you're in the mood for a different type of pizza than the traditional dough sauce and toppings

Yum! Their deep dish pizza was so so so good. The service was great and they were very accommodating for our large group. We ordered 2 large pizzas, 2 large salads, 2 appetizers (we like to eat) and 2 desserts. So much food, we def had leftovers. I will go back for sure. Veggie pizza was delish. We asked for the roasted tomatoes on the side-- delish.

I recently dined at Selma's for a large Birthday celebration. Food: I really enjoyed the Chicago style pizza. I ordered a sausage, onion, and pepper because of its simplicity and it just seemed to be more traditional. Deserts were similar to BJs and quite good. Beer: Good beer selection on tap. I admire an establishment with Sculpin. Service: Attentive and friendly. No mistakes. They even chit chatted with us as we were loitering around outside after they closed. Ambiance: Outside patio was cool and relaxing. Interior had a modern vibe from what I could see. Overall I had a good dining experience with Selma's and will be returning soon.

This place "never" disappoints. The pizza pies, salads, pastas and even their wings are "Awesome"! If there is any type of problem...their all over it to make it right. If you're looking for great food, along with friendly, fast service..."Come to Selma's"!!! They also have a great variety of beers (blondes, ale's, dark's) many to choose from in their Tap Room! This is our pizza goto spot!!!!!

This order is for take out service! I called in an order for dinner for two people. When I got to Selma's to pick up my order, it was not ready and I had to wait another 10 min for my food. Apparently the food containers were not closed completely because the soup I had ordered had spilled all over my car floor. I guess I should have double checked but I was still pretty pissed that they didn't make sure all the lids were on tight. I got the baked penne and I'm not sure if it was because I ordered it to go... But there was so much water built up towards the bottom of the tray. Also, the chicken tasted like the frozen chicken strips from the grocery store. Yuck! Definitely will not be ordering this dish again! I will stick to the pizzas and salads.

I used to think, "even bad pizza is good." I no longer think that. If you look at my restaurant reviews, you will see that I am not usually a complainer. I'm fair. But this was just... BAD. For a pizzeria, my pizza was awful. I got the veggie on thin crust. The crust was like soggy cardboard. And there was ZERO flavor in the toppings. I checked to see if they forgot to put on the pizza sauce (it was that bad), but it was there. I still can't figure it out. I even brought home slices for my husband to try. He will eat anything. He agreed it was awful. We did have great service and the sauteed mushrooms appetizer was yummy. Those mushrooms saved this place from my rare 1-star review. Unfortunately, I don't see why I'd come back. As my husband said, "Frozen pizza is way better than this." Boo.

THEY HAVE A HUGE BEER SELECTION! They got me sold lol on just that. Came here for lunch with my coworkers and enjoyed their lunch special. I ordered the mushroom ravioli with mushroom Alfredo sauce. I must say, it was BOMB and came with some garlic bread as well. Great prices, great service! xoxo Amy Nguyen

Salads are the only thing good here, the pizza is not even a pizza, you need a fork and a knife to eat it or it spills all over the place, what a mess. And they bring their dogs, gross - I'm trying to eat - take the dogs to the dog park - not to a restaurant. Unsanitary.

We had a great time last night!...My wife and I were over all the lame Rancho restaurants, and still are, but we gave Selma's a try, and was happily surprised! Just under $40 with 18% tip, and we are able to get a great 22oz and 16oz beer and small deep-dish pizza to split. Perfect dinner and date! Sat at the round table at the bar with all the bottle caps, fun!...the restaurant side seems a bit boring, but the bar was inviting, friendly, and enjoyable. We'll be back!

Close to home and nice regular spot for eats, beers, and sports. Sandwiches, pasta, and deep dish all tasty. Great craft beer choices. Both the restaurant side and bar side are nice.

This place is ok. The server wasn't very good. Food was ok expect for their ravioli, they need to put more than 6 pcs on a plate. Not sure if I would go back

I was pretty unhappy with the service that we got at Selma's. We had a fairly big party which I understand is difficult to accommodate but the hostess told us three times that it would be 20 minutes. We waited an hour and ten minutes before we were able to get a table. They did try to make things better by giving us free chips. I can't say that the chicago style pizza was authentic, but it was very tasty. My other complaint is that the servers hardly came out to the patio to check on us and my drink was often empty. Not to mention they started clearing some of the plates before we were done. I will avoid this place when I have a big party, i may return with a smaller group.

Like the movie this place doesn't win any awards... Over priced pizza toppings, hidden charges, bad service to top it of! After I complained the manager preceded to tell me that I was yelling at her. I love the reversal tactics here but sorry at 22 years of age, you're not pulling that one on me. You're incompetent, and you shouldn't be the manager if you cannot handle customers that are unsatisfied with the service being given to them. My family & myself won't be eating here again. There's plenty of places to go and much better food & service for the amount you pay here.

Attempted to go to Carmelita's but didn't feel like waiting 45 minutes, so we headed over to Selma's. Started with the bruschetta! Yum! Crunchy bread with a flavorful tomato dip....sooo good! We ordered a deep dish crust pizza 1/2 Hawaiian and 1/2 Buffalo chicken. Both were amazing! Flavorful & the buffalo chicken was spicy! We always enjoy the food here, and the service was good too!

I'm not a deep dish pizza fan at all, but they do it realllllly well. The pizza is great. The pasta...not so much. Twice I've ordered pasta dishes, and both times the dishes were greatly undersauced. The ratio of pasta to sauce is about 3-1, when it should completely cover the pasta. The service is OK. I did a pick up order, was told it would be 20 mins, I showed up 30 mins later, and the order still wasn't ready. I waited in store about 10-15 mins, and the same 2 people at the front asked me my name 4 times ("what was your name again? Oh, I will check on the order"). I was the only one waiting. They do have a good beer selection, and it's a comfortable place. Not a lot of seating inside, but they also have seating on outdoor patio. The pricing is about right, with the exception of the pasta. Those dishes are a little overpriced.

Good food (since we got take out) and really good pricing. Single serving pizza and a small salad was like $9. We'll be back for sure.

Really enjoyed our visit here! It was a busy Friday night and the wait was shorter than expected. Our server Rachel was amazing and provided excellent service! My wife and I ordered the Chicago Smoking Inferno pizza and a side salad to share. They have 3 homemade ranch dressing options and we went with the jalapeño ranch for our salad and to dip the pizza crust in of course. The manager even stopped by our table to ask how everything was which was really nice and unexpected. The entire experience and the food was great. We will definitely be back!

Melissa was an outstanding server. The atmosphere in bar was festive and great to watch some hockey playoff action. The meatball sub was average but the Caesar salad was very good.

Good customer service...over the years I can honestly say Selma's has always treated me nicely...never been inappropriate or rude. If anything is amiss, they make it right! Thank you! That means so much in the food & service industry!

Great food and even better beer. One of my new favorite spots. The wife and I enjoyed the 4X4 app followed by the baked penne. We sampled 8 of their beers on tap with the flight and followed it all up with a bottle of Firestone's Parabola which is to die for. Friendly staff and nice environment. We'll be back!

The food here is always super fresh and high quality. Think like BJ's, (which is awesome, don't get me wrong) but with a more local feel and higher quality. Be sure to try the Chicago style pizza, it's unique and amazing. And save room for dessert! My only complaint is that I wish they were open later. It'd be fun to have a place in RSM that didn't go to sleep by 11:00. There's young people here too who like to go out later. :) I last went here for a birthday celebration for a friend and the service was amazing for a large group. They had no problem doing separate checks and were friendly and fun to deal with. I had friends who had driven in from as far as San Diego and Riverside and they loved it!

I stopped by Selma's last night to grab a pizza. This was right before the Friday night rush and the employees were preparing. Selma's has two parking spots out front for take-out only which is convenient as I was there a longer waiting for my simple pizza than I first expected. The girl at the counter was extremely nice, and as I sat at the bar waiting for my pizza any new employee that passed asked if all was okay and if I needed help. That was very nice and made me feel welcome. This would of been a 5 star review except that nice girl at the counter was going to come and get me when my pie was ready and did not. My recommendation is if you say you're going to do something, do it. The pizza was wonderful!

Better than BJ'S fast service, quality food, great beer I highly recommend this Selmas to friends and family. The atmosphere inside and out is great, very relaxing. I has the Buffalo chicken pizza at BJ'S and then at Selmas, selmas won hands down. BJ'S derpdish pizza is too doughy. Selmas was perfect. I had the beer that was suggested by the waitress and it was perfect with my pizza. Great experience, every time.

The food is good - the pizza is great and the dessert cookie is fantastic! The service needs work!!!! We have been going here for years and the service is why I have avoided this place so many times. My husband loves the beer selection, and bringing the dogs on the patio is definitely a plus, but the service stinks. Not every server - we have definitely received good service a few times, but for the most part, it's pretty bad. If you are in the bar area - prepare for horrible service EVERY TIME! Out on the patio and in the dining room, it seems to be a little better. I fight going to this place all the time and absolutely REFUSE to sit in the bar. I actually sent a complaint to them a year or 2 ago, and the owner's responded with "shame and disgust", so I had decided not to share my experience. I thought by their reaction that they would take my complaint seriously and work on improving their service. They obviously didn't care even though all of our experiences are quite similar. We dined w/ Quinn as our server which was subpar even by fast food standards, let alone an establishment with a $17 per person average. Initially when taking drink orders our server spoke with 2 people in our party and got their drink orders then walked away without asking the other 2 people what they wanted. One person had to call him back. No apology, just a "whattaya have?" attitude. Soup we ordered never same but we were charged for. An entree came out 10 minutes before our pizza and when I pointed out to the food runner, he just said, "Oh." & dropped the food anyway so it was cold by the time the rest of the food came. We had to ask multiple times just for water. We were never offered desert, which we actually wanted, instead we simply went next door. All of these things I could have dealt with and still given a decent tip and possibly returned in the future, however the final straw was when Quinn was talking to the table right next to ours and when he turned i said, "Excuse me," trying to get his attention; he completely ignored me and walked right past us. This to me added insult to injury. When dropping the check he said something about having a nice night, but I wasn't able to catch it all as he was halfway back to the bar by the time he finished his sentence. Last month, they had their Pliny the Younger event. My husband went and couldn't get anything other than the one drink to save his life. Bartenders were actually standing behind the bar, backs to customers, chatting and ignoring people. Money in hand, waving, politely saying "excuse me", nothing got anyone's attention. Such a shame - I actually liked their pizza and wanted to support local small businesses. I guess there is something to be said about corporate places like BJ's. Same food & nowhere near the same service problems.

I'm a big fan of Pizza and in RSM it has to be Selma's. When I order it's the Meat-Head deep dish style pizza. My wife likes the Santa Margarita style which is the opposite of the Meat-Head, more like the Vegetable-Head and she loves it. They will even build you a half and half pizza. Can't offer any first hand reviews of too much more then beer and pizza. The atmosphere here. It's really laid back, there are sports games on the big TVs in the Tap Room. They have a great selection of interesting beer. Parking is terrible, but they have 2 parking spot at the front door for Take-Outs Price of pizza is a little on the high side, but if you want cheap pizzas go to Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's or dirt cheap Little Caesars. 4 Stars for great atmosphere, friendly staff, awesome pizza and beer.

This place is so amazing. I walk in and get awful service, they have the servers making the salads! Mmm I love when they put the entire bottle of dressing because they don't know how to make a salad. we specify 4 times we want deep dish, we get thin crust. all I could say is never EVER come here. This leave for 1 unhappy customer

Omgggg so good! First time here and we ordered wings, a deep dish and a thin crust wheat chicken pizza we stuffed our face lol love this place! Trust me you will be satisfied here. Good luck :)

Great beer elections! They have many changing taps. The pizzas and salads are very good. I especially like the game room. It has a TV so I can see my kids while they're playing in there and enjoy sometime with my wife. The tap room is also separated so if you want to have a more intimate adult type atmosphere you can have that too when not with the kids.

Recently came here for a birthday celebration and really enjoyed it! Being in a large group was nice because we got to order different items and try a little of everything! I highly recommend the wings. Seriously some of the best I've had. In terms of drinks, the Moscow mule was good, but not great, I've definitely had better. The black velvet was really good; raspberry framboise mixed with Guinness. The mother ship for dessert is similar to a BJs pizookie, and just as delicious with the extra delight of a bottle of chocolate sauce to add to your liking. I'm sure I'll be back soon!

My wife insisted that I give my review 4 stars but I don't agree, not to mention this is my review. We came in on a Friday night and the staff quickly found us a table in the bar area. The service is good from the hostess to our waiter and a few other people that helps us in between. The reason why my review is 3 stars is because of the chicken tender appetizers that we ordered were pretty poor quality. They were flavorless and without a doubt from a frozen state. Even with the ranch dipping sauce they were hopeless, low grade bar food. We also ordered beer and pizza which was really good. I am not from Chicago and I have no idea if this pizza is true to its claim. I would look to other reviewers to validate that. My recommendation is to stick with the beer and pizza.

My boyfriend and i got the large pizza: half buffalo chicken, half pedal to the metal (their special). The crust is decent. It's nice and crispy. The flavor of the food is better than BJs but not amazing. The buffalo half was better than the pedal half. The pedal is like any "special" pizza, just has a lot of toppings on it. The overabundance of the toppings made the crust less crunchy and more oily/soggy I feel. Also, the tomato sauce had no flavor, so this pizza overall lacked a lot of zest. It tasted of plain crust with a plethora of toppings and no harmonious flavor. Not bad, just not great. 2 stars for this combo. The buffalo half had better flavor. I was able to taste the buffalo sauce and the bits of celery offered crisp freshness at random moments. 3 stars for this side and the service was good. They filled our water cups and brought us everything I asked for: ranch, tobasco, pepper flakes, and fresh parm. 3 stars overall!

Chicago style pizza is my favorite, but I've never been to Chicago. But this place does it right. We met up with a friend here on a busy Saturday night. We opted to sit outside and got a table right away. Service was great, our server came over within a minute and we ordered wine, which ended up being very tasty merlot. Ordered salad and homemade potato chips and they were out within 5 minutes. Pizza was out 15 minutes later which was perfect timing. All the food was very fresh and the restaurant was clean. Parking wasn't a problem. Our server checked on us a lot, almost too much to the point of being annoying, but not worth losing a star over. The pizza is excellent, a step above BJ's, and I think theirs is pretty good. I'd probably eat here a lot more often if I lived closer.

I was with a few people driving from LA to San Diego late afternoon yesterday and we realized we hadn't eaten yet and decided it was a good time to share a pizza. My wife and I remembered we had gone to the San Clemente location for happy hour last year for drinks and appetizers but had been wanting to try their pizza and decided on the original location because we heard it had a tap room. We actually ordered from the car because we didn't want to wait a half hour longer so the guy who answered the phone took care of it for us and the pizza was ready within 10 minutes of our arrival. We ordered the Chicago Style large which is a deep dish and topped with loads of cheese, our toppings of mushrooms and sausage and then tomatoes and garlic on top of that. I ordered tea and a couple of people ordered bees from there pretty extensive list of craft beers and it was happy hour so they were a buck off. Ok, so now for the actual review. We drove up and it's in a really nice shopping center in RSM along with a few other restaurants. Very nice place, brick on the walls nice booths cool Chicago artwork and a separate bar area that looked really comfy. Beers were good and cold, tea was good but I have to say that the pizza was just not that good. The crust was OK but a little overcooked but not bad. The sauce tasted more like a basic jarred spaghetti sauce not pizza sauce, it had a pretty good amount of cheese but the sausage was the worst. This was purely a fast food pizza topping at the best. Being a Chicagoan I was very disappointed. If your Jonesn' for Chicago deep dish and you have to have it I guess it's ok otherwise I'd try something else on the menu.

How could anyone give Selma's less than 5 stars? Here is why I love this place. 1. Service is always quick and with a smile. Bring a big group and they split the bill with no question. Server continues to walk by and ask if u need a refill or anything else. 2. Pizza. Hands down, best that we have in RSM. My only suggestion is to order pizza without tomatoes. If u don't, u get chunks on the pizza. Outside of that, they have a huge selection including thin pizzas and even whole wheat crust. 3. Beer. Beer! Huge beer selection that continue's to change. They bring in beers from all over and even have a beer sampling menu. 4. Awesome place to watch games. On Sunday mornings they show all the NFL games and u can even ask them put what game u want on the big screen if u are there early enough. Anyone that has rated this place 3 stars or lower doesn't have an issue with Selma's. They have an issue with themselves. In fact, I hope more people read the negative reviews and stay away because that leaves more tasty beer, wings and pizza for me!!! Oh... And go during happy hour and order the wings. Wow! The wings!

Ambiance (good) Deep dish pizza loaded with toppings (good) Cookie dessert (really good) Service (ok) Like others have said in the style of the BJ'S resturant cozier though not to big nor small It's a classic deep dish california pizza, topings on top, not authentic Chicago style, but, still good and to be honest the way I like it ....topings on top Service was with a young lass, probably her first job, but still nice and friendly in my opinion they higher a lot of young people who need a wee bit more training, thus so many bad reviews on service mixed with the positive Over all nice place ....if you like BJ'S you'll like this

Delicious food, atrocious service, way too long of a wait for your food, every single time. It never gets better. After a long hiatus of only getting take-out from Selma's for this reason, we stopped in for lunch again. Having a limited amount of time for lunch, I decided to call ahead and order our food for dine-in. Told them we would be arriving in 20 mins and to put the order in immediately. We arrive and they say that they don't allow call ahead orders for dine-in and they were packaging up our food to go, but we could just eat it there out of the to-go containers if we wanted to. At this point I'm looking at the girl like she lost her mind and I tell her that we are dining there and we want our $35 worth of good served like it normally would be. She looked at me like I was speaking Chinese this whole time. I ask for the manager who gives me something of the same treatment. To top off this hilariously awful experience, I had to ask our server FOUR times for to-go cup for my drink. I thought I was on Candid Camera, the way this whole experience went. 3 stars because the food is great. ONLY VIA TAKE-OUT.

The goods: beer selection The bad: #Take forever to get the food #Appetizer came after the food #We ask to change the sauce, she said no #Food leftover in the floor, not clean #No qualify workers I will give another try , hopefully the get better.

I came here last night with some friends and ended up having a blast. We had a deep dish Wacky White/White Sox pizza with a fried mozzarella appetizer and it was perfect. They've got a great selection of beers on tap, and our server Celeste was incredibly helpful and friendly. Pricing seemed pretty standard for a deep dish pizza and the quality was perfect. I would easily recommend this place to anyone looking for a Chicago style pizza fix. Though I didn't eat there, they seemed to have a nice bar area for watching sports as well.

Love this place! I love their chips with ranch so yummy! I normally get the BBQ ranch salad and it comes with a warm biscuit ., it's so good! Their beer .. Delicious! My only complaint.. Wish they stayed open later :( Super nice staff too!! Try them out u won't regret it!

I am a big fan of their wings. Thursdays they have a $5/order plate. If you are a fan of beer, they have a pretty good selection.

We love this place! The music they play is awesome! They have tons of beer on tap to choose from. The food is awesome! I personal really like their chicken pesto panini. I get it every time we come in. There's usually a game on for sports fans. Great for kids, they even have a small arcade. Weekends they have live music. Overall, it's a good choice when dining out.

Great pizza with an awesome rotational beer selection. I always sit at the bar and have yet to receive bad service (even when slammed). It is a shame people waste their money on BJ's (Pizzeria) down the street, when they could go to Selmas. This location is where I go if I want a guaranteed good pizza and beer.

We ordered bbq chicken pizza....no cheese , no taste soda was flat ....seating was dirty ....had to ask to sweep up our floor due to food left everywhere service was cool ...not coming back

Slow service... The staff was friendly and the place looks nice, but we only got as far as ordering a water. The first person that helped us was not even our waiter and said our actual waiter was on break. That is not a problem, however, it became a problem when after 20 minutes, we had still not been waited on. We left with a fairly bad impression and ultimately, had intentions to eat pizza. Unfortunately, we did not get that opportunity.

Honestly, the food was so mediocre and the service was just straight up awful. We sat in the bar and our server didnt even put in our friends order for a bbq chicken pizza. He just seemed uninterested in taking care of us. Wont be back again.

A word of caution for Chicago Pizza lovers: It's not the real thing. I've had my fair share of the Windy City's treasure (i.e. Giordano's, Gino's, and Leonardo's), and was pretty disappointed with this premium-priced pie. Simply put: not enough cheese, crust wasn't flaky or buttery (tasted like it was hand-tossed), and the crust wasn't layered (crust-cheese-crust-sauce), so the sauce and cheese mixed together to a mush. Their other pizza looked good, and I may go back, but just not for what the restaurant is named after...

After nearly 10 years of going here, tonight was my last! Went there to order take out because it was one of those "dine-out" nights for our school. Fortunately when I got there at about 5:40 it was not too crowded yet. But I was shocked at the astronomical prices! I usually get their calzone, which has gone up in price lately, but not too bad. This time I wanted to get the small "wacky white" chicken pizza for my wife, and my daughter and I would share a medium pizza. The chicken pizza was an unbelievable $15! For a tiny 8" pizza! I'm sure the food cost on it was maybe 10%! For the other pizza I got the thinner crust, rather than their deep-dish style. To my surprise they charge the same price, even though you are getting what amounts to a smaller (in thickness) pizza. Total cost: $31.00 ! Wow! I kept thinking I could get 6 pizza, all large size, from Little Caesar's for that amount! But I was there, and a portion of the bill goes to the school. The desk girl who took my order said it would be 15-20 minutes. Over 45 minutes later, and several complaints I finally got my pizzas! The manager, a girl all of about 20 years old, was little help. I asked for the direct number to the owner - she actually said she didn't have it and handed me the restaurant card...and oh yes, a card for free garlic bread on my next visit!! Whoopie!! 5-cents worth of free bread! And that was after I told her I would never be back and that after 10 years they have lost a customer! You think she would have compt me at least one of those pizzas! (No training at all...you could tell!) I live 1 miles away... my pizza was luke-warm by the time I opened up the box! On a night that is was 90 degrees outside! So, basically that means my pizza was sitting for several minutes and the front desk girls failed to go get it or check on it despite me asking several times! And by the way.... dollar for dollar, Little Caeser's is a much better choice. Sure, not exactly (but close) as good as the Selma's pizza I had (half-cheese. half sausage), but for the money certainly better. In in reality, that Selma's pizza was worth maybe $7 at most! So bottom line: Service was ok, by poorly trained staff. Manager was inept, and the pizza way-way over-priced and just ok. After 10 years, I'll say farewell to Selma's for good!!

Wow! Great pizza and amazing beer. This place continues to be a hot spot for pizza and beer and I am glad to go quite often. The bar area is nice for Sunday football, but the restaurant has a great experience as well.

Wow, what can I say! First time here and it had to be one of the best pies I have had. My son and I had a medium pie and we had a couple of pieces left over. Guess who is getting pizza for lunch tomorrow. All I have to say is BJ's who!!!!

Slow service. Pizza quality is not like before. Took us over 30 mins for a medium pizza and a kids pizza. Waitress only checked on us when we flagged her down. I don't recommend this place.

Selma's is good. Pretty much a standard pizza and beer joint. Had the "Pedal to the Metal" and the Selma's Chips, both of which were A-OK. The chips were exactly what I hoped they'd be- thin, crisply fried disks of skin-on potatoes sprinkled with Parmesan and served with ketchup and your choice of regular ranch, cilantro ranch and jalapeno ranch. We opted for the jalapeno ranch which had a really great kick. Tasty, and definitely my favorite part of the meal. The pizza, which we ordered in the deep dish style, while a little on the pricey side (over $20 for a medium/6 slices) was nonetheless enjoyable. The crust managed to be doughy and crispy at the same time (the bottom was wonderfully oily and had a great crunch), and the toppings were plentiful. My only complaint was the the sauce was a little heavy on the oregano, to the point where it moved from pleasantly herbaceous to astringent in flavor. Service was overall okay, however when my boyfriend mistaken asked for the Pedal to the Metal by ordering "the works", our waitress sought no further clarification even though there's nothing on the menu called "the works" until she was walking away from the table and finally asked "so, just cheese on the pizza, right?", at which point we were able to clear up the mis-communication.. She also had to come back to ask us again what size we wanted. These small missteps didn't cause us to enjoy our meal any less, but they still stood out to me as minor service issues that could be improved upon. All in all, I enjoyed my meal at Selma's and wouldn't be opposed to returning in the future, however I think I would be more likely to continue to frequent BJ's on account of their more widely varied menu and their delicious root beer.

I used to LOVE coming to Selma's. Specifically for the Hot Wings and some beer, occasionally with a side of pizza! ;) The first few times We visited, a couple years ago, service was good and the food was fantastic, but in the past year or so, it seems like more and more young kids are being hired which is causing the service to be lacking greatly. Food quality has gone down slightly, but it really is the service that is ruining the experience for me. Not to mention the last time I visited with my family and they began dusting the ceiling air vents while people were still eating!!!! I really hope they will improve.

They have Guinness on tap here as well! Just another reason to love Selma's! (Did I mention they have the best hot wings in the world?!)

I usually have very good service when I come to Selmas!!!! First off we are sitting outside due to the fact I have my dog with me and we have already been sitting here for an hour with no food!!! So what guests on the patio don't get served as fast as the guests inside?!?! A waitress Is not good at all! Today has been ridiculously stupid!!! Got here at 4:15pm and wasn't even asked our order until 4:40... Now we have our waters and haven't even received our salads!!! Finally went in to complain an hour later! And our waitress asks us if we have gotten our food yet.... No I just like staring at my empty table. Worst service ever!!!! Please don't ignore your outside guests! Especially when we can see you working inside to make those guests happy!

If you're into Chicago deep dish pizza, then this place may be for you. I've had Chicago pizza (in Chicago) and once you've had that, maybe there's no turning back? The pizza to me was just okay. I got the deep dish Chicago pizza (italian sausage and mushrooms). They have other items on their menu, such as pastas, etc, and a decent beer selection. They are attached to a bar called, The Tap Room, which seemed pretty vibrant and happenin'! It's a semi-popular place on the weekends but they have inside and outstide seating and they move the line quickly. I believe they are somehow related to BJ's Pizeria, but I prefer BJ's to Selma's. Don't get me wrong; it's not a bad place, but it's not outstanding either. Just average.

Went to Selma's yesterday - around 5:00 to grab a couple of appetizers and catch up with a friend. The young lady at the front (supposedly greeting) couldn't have been less interested, or cordial. Our waitress was lovely. She brought me my glass of wine quickly, but then another waiter brought me the same, about 30 sec later (?) DIsconnect somewhere! Besides the mixed attitudes with the wait staff, the spinach & artichoke dip was some of the worst I've ever had. Cold, stringy and and chewy. Yikes. Anyway - gave them a 2star because the waitress was very sweet. Try Tutto Fresco just around the corner!

3 visits in as many weeks. Seems only fair for me to update my review and give them the props they deserve. Service - awesome. Craft beer selection - awesome It's the experience for me that feels that a five star rating is fitting for Selma's. I've had a few of their pizzas now and I feel they're good, not great but when you add great beer as well as great company - and in tonight's case, great music, it's five stars all the way!

I always feel like a dude when I look at my bf and say, "Hey, wanna just go grab a pizza and some beer for dinner tonight?" Then I see the love in his eyes and I know I've won Girlfriend of the Year. That's the conversation that led us here. Beer and deep dish pizza is a great combination and Selma's gets it right. I'm absolutely ashamed that it's taken me so long to get here. The beer list is incredible, the service is great, and the pizza is delicious. We ordered the pizza Chicago style and it came topped with lovely sauce and whole tomatoes. Loved it! The next time I go I'll try it without just so I can see if the sauce is covering anything up. Even tasted great the next day warmed up in the oven. Oh, yea, you know to heat it up in the oven and not the microwave, right?

This place made me mad at other pizza places. Other pizzas suck! Pedal to the medal Chicago style pizza. Way to good. Waitress was cool and said bruschetta was her favorite appetizer, got it, and it was freaking great. This spots on point.

Pizza was very disappointing. Their salads are very good, but I would pass on the pizza. Hardly any sauce, bad crust, and cold.

I have ordered here a few times now on a Friday around 4 p.m. for a pick up at 6:00 p.m. and every time I order a pizza it always feel like they make my pizza way to early and it sit in the warmer for 30+minutes or so. By the time I get home which takes me about (7 minutes) it doesn't taste fresh, or completely hot and the cheese looks dried out. This time I asked the phone taker to please make sure they don't make my pie to early so it just sit there and again it seem like that message didn't come across well because I had another dried out pizza. So unfortunately moving forward I think I will only dine in when I'm in that area and have the time to enjoy it or order from another pizza place for take out.

Love their ravioli. Great lunch specials. Tap room has a great beer selection and the service has always been outstanding. Don't forget to start with a minestrone soup. Best soup in town.

I have been to this place twice now. The first time was with four other friends and the last time was this weekend for my birthday in which I had 17 people with me. Needless to say, I love this place! The service is good, the food is awesome, they have great drinks, very good atmosphere and when I called to reserve a table for my birthday party, they were very accommodating!! Everything was fresh and delicious and I did not hear a single complaint from anyone at my table! Considering how large of a party we had, the waiter was prompt, patient and very understanding. I definitely plan to go back plenty more times! There was one person at my table who does not eat pizza very often and she even said the food was incredible! To all the pizza lovers, I definitely recommend this place!

While it has nothing to do with the 3 stars I am giving Selma's I have to say that this is not Chicago style pizza in any way. There is more crust but it is not deep dish. The crust is not buttery and flakey like a giant pie. The cheese is not on bottom. The sauce is not on top. This pizza bears no resemblance to Uno's, Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, or any other Chicago pizza place. This is traditional style pizza and the deep dish is not deep dish of any kind and is especially not Chicago style deep dish. That all said, the pizza is somewhere between not bad and pretty good. My complaints are that the tomatoes are cut too large for my taste and the chicken is pre cooked, flavorless, and dry. My favorite of the 'deep dish' pizzas we tried was the bbq chicken.

So glad we tried this place! My husband and i just moved to RSM on Labor Day Weekend and have no cooking/kitchen usage yet at our new house. Eating out at lots of local places and this one caught our eye. Loved the pizza, beer, and service! We had the "Works" and it was so good! Enjoyed talking to our friendly server and telling her we were new here. We even got a card for free appetizer next time. We felt very welcomed by the atmosphere and comfortable surroundings. We will definitely be back, and that is saying a lot considering how many restaurants are in this area! Thanks, Selma's, for a nice welcome to OC!

I was sick, and when I am sick I want carbs, not salad. So we went to Selmas for the first time! We have lived in RSM for 10 years, and this was our first time, can you believe it? Probably because my husband doesn't like deep-dish. Anyway, we went on a Tuesday night at about 6:00 pm. The dining room was full but there were lots of tables at the bar, so we went there. My largest issue is with the kids game room. The children were SCREAMING in there, their parents do nothing and let it happen. It ends up echoing through the whole restaurant and completely ruining any sense of ambiance. It needs to go! The pizza was good. I had a white deep-dish. I like all of the tomatoes on top, there was a decent amount of cheese, etc. I might go for a more classic pizza next time just to see the different types of toppings. The crust was EXCELLENT. I loved it, carb-o-licious. Probably won't be back to eat in until the game room situation is fixed, but might go for pick-up.

Just went here tonight with a friend and it was wonderful!!!!! I've came in here more than once and it's always good but tonight I had to write a review. We came in a hour before they closed to the bar and usually servers/bartenders kinda get mad about people coming in so late but our bartender was awesome! Her name was Shelby and she was amazing and very talkative. We absolutely loved her and would come in again just to see her. We came in for wine Wednesday and ALL the bottles were half off. Pretty good deal if you ask me. We got the pinot grigio Mezzacorona and it was very good. Appetizer-Garlic cheese bread- delicious! Would definitely order again. Came with 2 marinara sauces and since I love dipping sauces this was perfect. Dinner- Best o pesto pasta- Good pasta. I get this every time and it's always good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and they have really good pesto sauce.(always ask for extra to put on!) Santa margarita pizza- soo good! I love their pizza. Deep dish but not too much crust. No sauce but olive oil maybe ask for pesto/bbq to dip in and it's delicious. I wanted dessert but my friend was too full. I love Selmas and will definitely be back!!! Also our server showed us the lunch menu and it looked VERY good and good prices. Come for lunch or anytime!!

I live in the area and always drive by this place but I never got around to trying it. Well last night I decided to take the plunge and check it out. I went in and made an order to go. The staff was friendly, based on other reviews it appears that sometimes the staff isn't so nice. I ordered the large deep dish pizza with mushrooms, pepperoni, and ham as well as an order of mild wings. The total came out to $35, yikes!! I thought to myself what the heck it may be worth it. So I got home and sat down and dug in. Let me just say that the pizza looked quite tasty and the wings looked full of meat, so I was looking forward to the meal. I took a couple of bites of the pizza and thought it was good. As I neared the end of my first slice, I got to the crust and then bam! I got hit with an odd flavor, I took a closer look at the crust and noticed that the crust looked burnt, I typically like the crust on pizzas but the charred taste of this crust was unbearable. I do not know if the charred taste is supposed to be there like a wood fire type of taste or if the pizza was actually burnt. I decided to work on the wings a bit. Now, for the wings, I would say that they weren't bad but they needed more seasoning. I liked the fact that the wings had a decent amount of meat on them but the flavor was lacking. They provided celery and ranch with the wings which I liked. Other places like Wingstop charge you for ranch even though you order 30 wings..what's up with that?! Anyway, so I grab a second slice of pizza with the hope that the burnt taste in my mouth was gone, however, I had no luck, the charred taste was now in every bit of pizza that I took. This was really disappointing because I feel that this place has potential to be one of my regular spots but the charred tasting pizza kind of turned me off . I am undecided on whether or not I will try this place again. If the charred taste is how the pizza is supposed to taste then I will not be back, if the pizza was accidently burnt then I just may give this place another try. We shall see!

Great service. Pizza was good but just ok. As a Chicago transplant, I had higher hopes. Its decent for the area. The next best chicago deep dish is in costa mesa. Crust was slightly burnt. They charge extra for proper Chicago style. So you if you order deep dish, it wont be chitown style unless you specify this. Awesome beer selection! Get your inner hophead on! I loved that they had 5 different ipas available on tap. Salads are crisp. Garlic cheese bread was super fresh and yummy. Nice and clean facilities. Easy parking however watch out for all the Douchbags who can't park and think their car should be at an angle or consume two spaces. Its on the pricey side but I would come back on occasion.

I'm a Chicagoan and although their Chicago deep dish is not the same as the Classic Chicago deep dish it is still very good! Hubby loves the meatball panini. ALL the kids love eating here too. Yummy appetizers!! Prices are average. There is a little arcade area with a few video games and cameras so that you can view them from the dining area which is pretty cool. Hubby says they have an excellent beer selection. Great place!!

This was our first visit to Selma's. We have recently moved from Irvine down to Foothill Ranch. My wife ordered the fried ravioli as a meal. I ordered a Chicago Style pizza with Italian sausage and green peppers. Also had a couple of awesome IPA's from the Deschutes brewery in Oregon. The fried ravioli was excellent (I tasted it off my wife's plate in exchange for a slice). In the Chicago tradition, the pizza was loaded with toppings. However, they delivered a pizza with pepperoni and green peppers. The sauce was also a bit peppery, which is common in So Cal. Despite the mistake and the pepper, it is one of the best pizzas that I have had in a very long time. We let the waiter know that the order was not correct, but we did not want to send it back. The manager came over and apologized, and paid for one of my beers. We will definitely be back.

This review is for take-out pizza only. Fellow Yelper, Archibald P., has been telling me how good the deep dish pizza is here, so wanted to give it a try. After looking at their extensive menu online decided on the Petal to the Metal deep dish which is their "works" pizza. It was pretty loaded up with meatballs, sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, olives, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes on top. I am more of a NY-style pizza girl, and I have never had a true Chicago deep dish pizza, but I enjoyed this pizza very much. I prefer this to BJ's. I love tomatoes, so maybe that's why. Heated up leftovers the next day in the oven and I thought it tasted even better since the flavors were allowed to settle in a bit. The restaurant, itself, has a lot of beer because there is a tap room there. I would like to go and eat at the restaurant and check out the atmosphere and also try the sauteed mushrooms everybody keeps talking about. Who would have thought good deep dish could be found in RSM?

*This review is for Selma's football Sunday only.* We walked in about 15 mins before the first football Sunday of the season was about to start. Lots of TVs were labeled and ready to go and we had our pick of seats as the place was empty. Sadly, the girl working behind the bar told us that they weren't going to play the Rams as they didn't get picked out of the hat to be played. We looked around the empty bar and thought it would be appropriate to change the channel since there were barely any customers in there, but the girl just said sorry. We took our money and our appetites and walked out of the empty bar. Come on Selma's! You couldn't turn the channel to make one of the few customers who showed up happy?

Wow. This place consistently delivers I thought it was a one trick pony until I had the Bruschetta pasta... Incredible. The sandwiches are great and they have really nice beers on tap. Great place, small focused group here doesn't feel like a chain group.

If these guys can get your orders right, then I would say to come here. The managerial staff all the way down to the front desk staff is awful. Been here several times and nothing goes right at this place. How do you call in an order and tell us to pick up in 25 minutes and get there and they have no record of the call!? Terrible service. We'll continue to go to Ladera location.

Not really a fan of the pizza. Had a salad and soup the last time I was there and asked for oil and vinegar dressing on my salad. Out comes the salad with the little canister of oil and vinegar. Okay...please tell me how you're supposed to toss a salad in a tiny little bowl full to the brim? Yeah, good luck with that. Seriously, how hard would it have been for them to toss the oil and vinegar for me back in the kitchen? It's not rocket science, people.

This place is close to where my family and I live and we enjoy coming here once in a while! The pizza is tasty and everything else we have tried is average. I have yet to try anything from the bar (as all my visits have been while pregnant or caring for a newborn) but the beer menu looks good! I like that this place is close but the food is average.

The past 3 times we came here we left after 20 minutes of nobody stopping by to say hi, drop drinks, or take orders. Literally grabbed drinks from the bar and brought them back and still -- nobody helped. Can't say the food is good when you don't get to eat.

  • Mike W.

We waited for 30 minutes and I'm not sure why. We were seated at the front and every time the door opened a crack, a cold breeze swept through the whole place. So we moved into the middle where it felt like they "fit" some tables. Next our pizza was served and despite the server trying to make the pan seem hot, the pizza was warm. Our daughter ordered chicken fingers: ketchup took five minutes after the service. I don't know what all the hoopla is about this place except that OC lacks great pizza so we settle for places like this as the pizza tasted good (not great).

This place is amazing! The food here might take a little longer than some other locations, but it is worth it. They have a great selection of beers in the bar. Happyhour is pretty decent here as well in the bar area. The $5 specials and discounted beers are good. Overall, great place.

I went here today for lunch with a friend and I have to say that this is one of the best pizza places I've been to in Orange County so far. Get the spicy inferno! It is awesome. The customer service is fast, friendly, and efficient. I'm definitely coming back.

The food was alright nothing too spectacular but that only if u dont mind the bad service. It started good but right after we order drinks it took a while for the server to come back to take our order, when our food got there I got a salad when I order a soup, after the waiter not returning for a long time with our refills , he never came back and checked on us bc he was busy with a bigger party , we kept trying to tell someone we needed the check but no luck, we went to the front and asked the hostess and after the second time we asked her we finally got service. Not going back bc a lot of people seem to have a problem with the service

This is one of my favorite places for a relaxing beer after work and their food is pretty great too! You can't go wrong with the Santa Margarita Deep Dish Pizza...add pepperoni to make it event better ;) Most of the bartenders are awesome, Megan and Jennifer are definitely the best. On football nights it's tough cause they get slammed...but the beer selection is worth the wait.

Although it may not be true "Chicago pizza" it's still better than places like Pizza hut or Domino's. We always get thin crust, and it's always really good. We usually get the "pedal to metal" app. for starters and each time seems to be a hit or miss on the amount of cheese, bacon and time cooked. We still buy it anyways. The one downer to this place is the lack of liquor. It's a beer and wine style tap room. I once wanted a drink and was disappointed they didn't even carry Southern Comfort. But hey, soda is a good second option. The staff is pretty friendly, and I can never complain. The wait times vary as it can be a really happening place in the evening and it's a small restaurant space. Get there as early as possible. If your wait is rather long, I suggest visiting Starbucks for a quick drink if you enjoy coffee. All in all? Decent prices, great atmosphere, friendly staff, great pizza.

We went there and the service was ok our waiter brought us all our food including our drinks all at the same time so we went from starving to what should we eat first so it doesn't get cold, the wings were burnt and so was the pizza at the end when we got the change from our bill he left us all big bills expecting a big tip but luckily I had change, We are definitely not going back. Its to bad this place use to be good but this is the 4th time in a row I have gone with the same results.

We were visiting the lake in Rancho Santa Margarita with Chief and the wife was actually in the mood for pizza. We saw the reviews and decided to see if the outside seating would accommodate our four-legged family member. They allow dogs ... so we decided to try the pizza here. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had some special needs including moving a table to a different part of the patio and getting some water for Chief. This was all handled with a smile by the staff. They were also extremely efficient and gave an accurate time for the preparation of the pizza. We ordered the large deep dish Pedal the the Medal pizza with extra cheese. All I can say is ... Wow! When my wife thinks pizza is very good, you know you have a winner. The toppings were plentiful, including the extra cheese. I hate it when you order extra cheese and wonder where it is at. Not in this case, there was plenty of cheese. The Parmesan cheese was shredded and not the normal cheap grainy cheese. The pizza and 2 drinks were $38 including tip, which may seem a little steep, but the quality was really great! The family will definitely be back in the future.

Yummy! Let's start with Italiano, it is not my first, second or even third choice of food. Then move on to pizza, and that is falling even farther down the list. Then along came Selma's. Best pizza I've ever had! I've been to Chicago and was unimpressed with the pizza, perhaps I wasn't taken to the "right" place. Thanks a lot best friend! Rohlin and I had taken Chief for a nice casual walk around the lake and during Yelping, I discovered Selma's, so going there was kind of on a whim. They welcomed us and said of course Chief can sit outside with you. The staff was great. They moved our table so Chief had more room (he is a big boy) and so he was no in the way of other diners. They turned off the overhead heat lamp so he/we wouldn't be too warm. Our waitress was knowledgable, friendly and quick with bringing refills of drinks. We ordered the large deep-dish pedal to the metal and paid $2 extra for extra cheese. Our waitress said that we would actually get extra cheese, and she was correct. Bingo! (I hate paying for extra cheese and I'm like what?, that's extra cheese!?) We were told our pizza would take some extra time, up front, that's appreciated. It was worth the wait. Delicious, every savory bite. Pretty gosh-darn-good amount of meatball, sausage, pepperoni, onion and green pepper. This particular pizza also comes with mushrooms. I'm allergic so they took it off. The dough was very tasty, with two different sections of taste. Let me explain, the middle, towards the crust is tender and soft, not a bit overcooked. The ends/crust is slightly firmer, with just a bit of crunch on the ends and tops. They brought out a huge to go bowl of water for Chief, so he was happy. Yes, he got a few tidbits, so he was even happier! I saw an inside section of the restaurant, separated by a wall for the bar section. The bar section was pretty crowded and everybody appeared to be having a good time. They were playing lot's of 70's, 80's and 90's rock or trendy music of the day. The beer listing, which we did not partake in, seemed really good. I also saw a little memo-pad to have a flight of beers, so for beer lovers, that could certainly be a great way to go. Thank you Selma's for changing my view on pizza. This is going on my list for Yelp food discoveries and the whole family will be back.

If BJ's was perfect. it would be Selma's. This place is pretty much mirror-mode of bj's, except they are better in every aspect. Beer? More variety, freshly rotated taps, hard to find brews in both bottle and tap. A very exicting experience for a beer enthusiast. Pizza? Yep. Same deep dish style with higher quality and fresher ingredients. Pizookie? yeah, but here its called the Babyship or Mothership. And it tastes like it was freshly made to order, not packaged. Also recommeded are the buffalo wings, clam chowder on fridays, and the bbq chicken panini. And dont forget about their server megan, who stands out with her excellent beer knowledge among a super friendly staff.

I did carry out, note to self to call in a carry out because it takes some time for it to be prepared. Everything was delicious! But my stars mainly go out to the ladies at the front desk. There was about four waitresses and each of them were friendly and very helpful in different ways. The one girl who's training to be a waitress was very suggestive and friendly. The other two girls I think their training with each other were really nice while checking on my to go meal asking if there was anything I wanted. I asked for a water with lemon, and celery sticks on the side. Very accommodating and nice! Next time I will dine in at the bar to give it a go again. But I will say this. While they had construction going on for their new kitchen there were two waitresses there. Both were amazing! The one girl remembers me more then I remember her lol. And they just worked really really well as a team letting people know of the smaller menu and managing everyone and taking care of each other and being there for one another. I wish more places had this type of team work!

This is a great place to have a beer and some yummy food! There is a huge beer selection which can be overwhelming. They have a flight of beers you can get for a reasonable price which is a great way to find something new! I got their wings and a small Zeus pizza. The wings were great! A good amount of meat, fried to perfection, and yummy creamy cilantro ranch sauce for dipping! The pizza was great too! It was the perfect size of 4 slices. The feta and olives gives this pizza a nice flavor and sets it apart from typical pizza toppings. Although a little oily, I would defiantly order this again The service was great as well! Overall- great place to have some fun!

Yup...we love the Works pizza and the salad with cilantro ranch. Such a burst of different flavors that work well together. Stay clear of the wings...not so good but sandwiches and pizzas are all pretty good. Two slices will fill you up quickly so be prepared to take a nice brown cardboard box home with ya.

We got takeout tonight. My sister and her family had tried the food once before and were not impressed but willing to give it another try. I ordered the gluten free and the rest of the family had two medium deep-dish pizzas. All of the pizzas were burned on the bottom (I'm not talking golden brown here). None were worth writing home about and the GF pizza was OK as far as those go. It would have been better if it had not been burned on the bottom. I'm leaving town so there will be no opportunity for redemption here.

I wanted to give chicago style pizza a try.... it was pretty good! and the tap bar there is awesome! so many choices and also you can get samples of different types if you don't know which one you want to choose! I will be going back there more often!

Really good food. I eat gluten free and they have the best gluten free pizza I have ever had. Great for families on one side of the restaurant and a good bar atmosphere with TVs on the other. No hard alcohol. The bartenders are decent but not great.

Love coming here for the deep dish Pizza and their great varieties of Beer. This place is busy, so I'd recommend showing up outside of rush hour times. Be ready for a lot of noisy and invasive children. Many times that I've been here it seems like parents think its ok to let their brats run around and invade your space because: A) the parents are engaged in important talk with other parents at their table. B) there's an arcade, why not let the brats run back and forth between the restaurant and the bar area. C) it's someone's celebration, aren't you supposed to ignore the rights of personal space of others? Final say... Come here outside of the brat hours, pizza and beer are great. Those of you with your brats, shame on you :P

I don't know why I haven't written a review after enjoying Selma's for so many years. We've been in a couple of times over the last month, and it reminded me how much I like it. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and the staff is friendly--from the hosts and servers, to the take out desk on the nights we don't feel like cooking! We often order the same pizza, and it's consistently good. When we don't get pizza, we get pasta and it's delicious, and so is the Caesar salad. It's hard to resist getting a mother ship, even if it's just to watch our kids battle for bites. Their beer selection is great, and the craft beers are fun and original. Overall, it's probably our favorite restaurant in the area.

Selma's Chicago Pizzeria is a bit of a misnomer. I knew something was up after we ordered the pizza and our waitress said it would be out in 20 min. So when the pizza came out I finally understood what all of the women who were matched to my Eharmony profile felt like when they saw my photo and realized my self description of looking like Brad Pitt was more like Arm Pitt. As Yoda would have said - deep dish alone Chicago pizza makes not. The pizza that arrived looked like a pizza from BJ's. Everything was made backwards, sauce was on bottom, cheese toppings on top! Not even an inkling of what Chi town pizzas are like. I was so taken aback that I think that it may have alarmed our waitress. That is not our pizza! Umm, yes it is unless, you wanted the thin crust. No, no , no, the pizza is made wrong, the sauce is on the bottom. She looked absolutely perplexed. I was in a state of shock - I drove an hour out to cookie cutter suburbia hell and spent $5 on toll fees to get here for what I thought was going to be decent Chicago style pizza! Other than this major discrepancy, the pizza was fine. It is similar to the deep dish pizza that you get at BJ's,though slightly better. The great selection of beers that they have on taps helped to assuage my disappointment. If I lived nearby, I could definitely seeing myself being a regular here. Service is also fast and friendly. Having Belgian lambic beer on tap is a major thumbs up in my book. But as I write this, I am determined to satisfy myself of Chi-town pizza craving the surefire way, by hopping on a flight to Chicago.

I had just watched a tv show on chicago style pizzas and was craving a pie so Selma's was the closest to my house with the better reviews. I ventured out that way even though it was a far drive but they had delicious deep dish pizza... Crispy crust and gooey on top. Also had the fried cheese ravioli that was yummy.

I have been here for lunch and dinner several times. Everything I've had has been great. Soup, salad, pasta, pizza and the beer (too many to mention and cannot remember names). It's my go to place with friends or for meetings and the service has always been very friendly.

Food's definitely a solid three stars, the beer selection, tap room ambience, extremely friendly service, free wi-fi, great company and even greater tv screens bump it up to a solid four! Scotty Dawg, Alex P., Ralphie Senior, the brother, the bestie, Proverbial Boy and my Little German Brother all made it out for a football playoffs lunch precursor to a tasting release at a nearby brewery. Although initially walking into a busy dining room filled with little munchkins running about really turned me off, we were thus directed to the 'Tap Room' side -- which we had no problem patronizing whatsoever! On hearty recommendation from our nice server Tim (whom we quickly blessed with other nicknames such as 'Chad,' 'Tyler,' 'Dylan,' 'Will,' among other random generic first names), we started off with the hot wings and sauteed mushrooms. I'm officially in love with both! The wings were a nice enough heat and sauced just right to be able to appreciate both the chicken and the spices. Somewhat small per wing, but still delicious! The mushrooms were a table favorite all around -- lots of garlic, lots of white wine, lots of herbs and goodness! We even kept the leftover bowl so we could sop it up with our pizza. I swear I thought either my LGB or Ralphie would start mainlining it shortly. For our party of eight we split two gigantic deep dishes -- the all-meat one and the Pedal to the Metal, which is basically the meat one plus some veggies. Although I thought both pizzas were okay, I enjoyed the meatatarian one much more immensely because the crust in and of itself was not salty enough to counter the vegetable presence. There was a good amount of sauce and cheese, but the bread is pretty overwhelming if you're not used to it. Fresh parmesan cheese (NOT the crumbly fake stuff, either!) rounded out our generally awesome pizza experience. What I liked the most about the whole thing was that the pizzas were not overly oily or greasy, like other deep dishes I've experienced. However, I think they did sacrifice a little bit of flavor for this reality to occur. Would I return here? Most likely, especially with that killer beer selection! I started with a bottle and ended with a draught, and everybody definitely found something they could agree with. Did it help that I was with some of my most favorite people in the whole wide world? Definitely. Thanks to Selma's for feeding and putting up with our antics during the first game :) Big props to my LGB Lorenz for coming to kick it with the old timers! Love you, sir!

We walked in an hour before closing so maybe that's why the service sucked. They were all busy cleaning up it took forever to get a hold of anyone. Oh and my ice tea refill? Nope! They ran out... lame! We had the Caesar salad and veggie pizza. The salad was good but the pizza was bland. So disappointed since I've heard good things about this place. Not coming back.

I suppose I will need to try Selma's again, cause I did think the pizza was pretty appetizing, but the initial impression did not blow away my taste buds. Maybe I'm just not a deep dish guy... Of the many varieties of pizza you can choose from, my family ordered the Hawaiian and the Meat Head. The Hawaiian, was, as expected, loaded with chunks of pineapple and Canadian bacon (Hawaii and Canada, bff's of the pizza world...). I would have preferred a little bit more in terms of the Canadian bacon topping, or it would have also been more enjoyable to me if it also had small bits of regular bacon. Just a preference of mine, since I thought the pineapple to bacon ratio was slanted. The Meat Head, as the name implies, is packed with sausage, pepperonis, etc. Now, this was a pizza I could get behind. The sausages were excellently seasoned, and had a nice little spiciness to them. The edges of this pizza were a little bit burnt, which was unfortunate, as I am a crust lover. Service was just OK when we went. We had an empty appetizer plate from potato chips (nothing too exciting about those...) that was juggled around our table for space because the servers never picked it up after it was empty. I love family owned restaurants, but this reminded me a bit too much of BJ's, which I felt has comparable quality, better tap selection, and much more menu variety.

Hell yeah deep dish pizza! Awesome food, quick fast service, whats not to LOVE? The take out orders are really the way to go, easy! Plus these pizzas reheat pretty well just in case you dont finish all that doughy saucy meaty goodness the first go-around. I think its better than BJs, the sauce is pretty amazing so ask for extra ;)

We go to the one in Ladera since the service in RSM is really SLOW & the place is small. The food is very good, I like the lunch specials. Good sandwiches, Pizza is nice for a deep dish & the Raviolis are pretty good. The food is very much like BJ's since these were the people who started BJ's & then sold it off.

Nice place, wish the food and service was better! I came in here for lunch with the kids and was kind of disappointed with the service. We were charged for an extra salad then told we would get it refunded right away. Her exact words were, "I will take care of this for you right away". Well the waitress walked away and never returned. About ten minutes later another waitress stopped by our table and I asked her about the extra salad and she promptly called the Manager who took care of refunding it for us. The Manager was very friendly and seemed genuinely apologetic about the mistake. The young wait staff here is not friendly either. No smiles, no "thank you's", no "we're sorry about the mistake", they seemed like they really did not want to be there. We ordered the Cobb salad which was OK, nothing special. We also got a small personal cheese pizza and a small pepperoni. We've been to Chicago and had authentic Chicago style pizza and I have to say this was kind of disappointing. It wasn't awful but if I had a choice between going here or BJ's Pizzeria, I would definitely do BJ's. The sauce was very chunked out, more like pieces of tomato instead of sauce. It tasted very dough-like as well. The place itself is actually pretty inviting. Its got brown/reddish booths and dark atmosphere like you see in real Chicago pizzeria's. There is also a small bar there, which we didn't visit. They seem to have lots of different beer selections as well. One other thing I did not care for is that at least for lunch (not sure about dinner) you had to go up to the counter to order your food and then they brought it out...Carl's Jr. style with a brass looking number you put on your table. It doesn't really give customers enough time to peruse the menu before ordering since the menu is located in front of the cashier so you better know what you want as soon as you reach the front of the line. I am giving this 3 stars because the Manager was very nice and sincere about the mistake on the salad (even thought his wait staff was not) but I did not care for the young wait staff and their lack of customer service etiquette. A simple smile can go a long way in a restaurant and can set the tone from the minute a customer walks in!

I should give it 1 star since they claim "Chicago Style" pizza. I'm from Chicago, and this is a far cry from Chicago Style. Where there should be cheese, there is airy bread. Too much sauce on top and you can keep those tomatoes. The wait was long, the pizza was way below average. The service was decent, however, I have no idea what the hype is. If I would open my open "Chicago Style" pizza place, Selma's may actually go out of business for false advertising.

I'd visited Selma's once or twice before they put the Tap Room in and hadn't exactly fallen in love. Upon my return back to RSM, however, I found a newly expanded restaurant and menu and am now a regular (I'd be the damn Duke if Yelp could get the GPS location right). If you're not getting pizza, the food is still pretty good. I really like the paninis, especially the BBQ Chicken. But, if you're looking for the real goods, the pizza is where it's at. It's not cheap, but one slice is enough for a decent meal. I really like the Fire Pizza...though it's not as hot as the name suggests, the flavor is there and you'll get a little tingle after a few big bites. What really sells this place for me, though, is the beer. The ownership do a really nice job of having some unique selections on draft, and cask night always brings an extra special treat. I'd suggest following these guys on Facebook to keep posted on what's hitting the tap; some of the better brews, like Pliny the Elder, will only last a day or two. To anyone saying that BJ's is better than this place: you're outchya damn mind. The prices here are better, the pizza has more flavor, and they serve real, good beer; not just their own brews. Without the Tap Room, Selma's may only be a three-or-four-star place...four-star for the pizza, three-star for the rest of the menu. But, the awesome beer selection here can only be topped by the Yard House and that place gets crowded and annoying. Plus, it's in RSM and most the stuff out here is wack.

    (5)
  • Stephen W.

Seriously, some good pizza here. Love the deep dish, and they have a lot of great choices as well. I can't get enough of their margarita pizza. It is TASTY! On top of that, when they added the Tap Room, it just totally upped the experience. I am a lover of microbrews, and they have a lot of really good beers on tap that are hard to find around here. Whoever picks their beer really knows how to find the good stuff. It's pretty reasonably priced as well. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because their service is consistently substandard. I wouldn't say it's downright bad, it just could be a lot better. It just seems like a lot of people who work there don't really care about their job. It's really too bad considering how good the food and drinks are. But hey, I'll still be back!

  • Benjamin G.

Food is good, services is okay, sometimes food takes too long to come out at lunch times, the bad thing is the carpet is disgusting, and smells of urine, sorry but I can't go back until they replace the floors, and clean the place.

Stopped by in the afternoon for lunch. Had not been there for a couple of years. My son and I split a pizza, deep dish pizza. Wonderful chicago style pizza. The place had been enlarged with the addition of a bar and additional seating. The pizza was stuft with goodies and full of taste. As we watched the line grew towards the door. Looks like this little spot is no secret in RSM.

  • Jenn L.

We just moved to RSM and thought this would be a great place to check out. The beer selection here was pretty awesome. The atmosphere is great and the customer service was excellent. We ordered the TPMG artisan pizza and an order of Pedal to the Medal Taters. I was surprised that a pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and garlic could be bland. The tater were just okay. Overall, the food wasn't bad, it serves to satisfy a craving of pizza and beer. In the end, we decided we would probably go back if we didn't feel like driving too far to watch a game while grubbing on some pizza and chugging a few beers with some friends.

I love this place. Very rarely have I ever had any problems with the food or service and they have been quick to make it up. Food is great, the kids love the food and it is a relaxed atmosphere. Servers are very helpful. The only time I have had any difficulty with service is if I go at rush hour; but then what good place with tons of customers is not going to be a little slower. The beer is always cold and there are lots of great craft beer selections.

  • Michael G.

Best pizza in the area. Deep dish is as good as it gets. They also have some pretty good wings, which is really an underrated find. Great atmosphere, and GREAT SERVICE. Always really polite and really helpful, and they really make the experience that much better. My only complaint is the prices. They are a little high for what ultimately amounts to a sports bar. But beyond that, Selma's is terrific! Love it!

The place is pretty good, but it's nothing compared to Tony's little Italy (see my review.) But I can't always get to Placentia, so this joint in Rancho Santa Margarita is the next best thing. You have to add a star for their addition of the Tap Room... it took a pizza place that serves beer to a pizza and beer place! The salads are also good. I have yet to try the pasta. The place is clean and the servers are nice. It's also a great place for kids too.

We live nearby. Had a craving for a dessert that can be found out BJs. Got there only to find that there was an unseemly wait time, so decided that Selma's would be a good second choice. That will no longer be the case. We had the fried cheese which was ok. Nothing terribly special though. Then the pizzas came out. Our daughters DEVOURED their cheese pizzas, which is incredible for the youngest one. Our Red and White pizza was quite delicious. Pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually one for a crispy thin crust, and not the reason that I would choose to go to Selma's, but this one was amazingly good. Unfortunately, we did not finish it because we were saving room for the Mother Ship dessert. (this pizza looses its crisp the next day). The dessert was gone in seconds! Mother Ship chocolate chip cookie dessert definitely rivals BJs similar dessert. With the shorter lines, friendlier atmosphere, great local beers, I will put Selma's before BJs even with them being a stone throw from each other.

I'm sort of torn on this one. The food is always great (hidden gem...Santa Fe Chicken Salad), but the service has been very inconsistent. I've been there about 8-10 times and my experience has ranged from "who is this guy/girl? He/she is great" to "this guy/girl is pissing me off. Where is my check?" The Friday night crew has always been the best...weeknights not so much.

The food and the service were great! Our server was very sweet and offered us great suggestions, since it was our first time eating there. The restaurant has a great feel to it and would be a great place to come to have a few drinks or to eat lunch or dinner. We will definitely be coming back!

  • Paul C.

Beer selection is good -- both craft beer and standards, but way too expensive. My wife & I had 2 beers each, my wife had spaghetti & meat balls & cheese cake for dessert. I had a Santa Margarita pizza. The food was acceptable, but not spectacular, but the bill was $80 (including tip)!! That's a bit much for a sports bar. Good thing we were early enough for "happy hour". I do have to say that service was good, not like other reviewers experienced. It seemed that the wait staff spent a lot of time conversing with the customers -- it makes it feel a little homey that way, I guess.

I come to Selma's very very often to get my deep dish pizza on! I've tried most of their specialties, and they are all delicious. My absolute favorite item on their menu has to be their "Born To Be Wild" Hot Wings! I can honestly say, I am a hot wing fanatic, and these wings have the perfect amount of wing sauce, spice, crisp, crunch, and meat that I like! One note: I prefer to get a side of wing sauce with my wings when I order take-out as the wings CAN get a bit dry! I'll definitely be in again, as usual!

  • Tim W.

I am definitely a fan of deep dish pizza!! I won't call it "Chicago Style" deep dish because I don't want a bunch of messages telling me that none of the pizza in CA is real 'Chicago Style' deep dish...... I get it! But I live in CA not Chicago so I will go with what we have and what I like. So decided to give Selma's a try. This place is located in a typical OC shopping center with a fro'yo place next door and a home improvement store across the parking lot! We sat outside on the small patio which consists of 4 tables. We had a great server named Tim. He was really friendly and chatty which is so not the norm that it took us a few minutes to get used to. WTF.. why is this guy being so nice??!! Started with a large house salad which is plenty for 2 people to share. It came which garbanzo beans, +++ for that. The croutons were good too! Ordered a medium deep dish pizza with meatballs and red onion and the standard tomato that comes on their deep dish pizza. The pizza was good. Not the best, but good. The crust was great. Really light and crunchy. But the pizza did not have enough sauce on it for my liking. And the sauce didn't have much flavor. Meatball topping was really good. Tomatoes were a little green. I noticed in the menu that they offer extra sauce and cheese for $2.00 so maybe they just don't put much on their pizzas unless you order and pay for it!? I still ate my half (3 pieces) don't get me wrong, but it just tasted like it was missing some flavor or seasoning or something, kinda blah. Pizza is very similar to BJ's and as much as I hate to say this, BJ's is probably better. We did have great service tho so that is worth an extra star! I mean when was the last time your server fist-bumped you twice during your meal?? (Bars don't count!). I might give this place another try if I am in the area. Tim Quick Fact #62: My favorite deep dish pizza is Numero Uno. If you are a fan of deep dish pizza... you should give it a try!! The crust is one of a kind. yelp.com/biz/numero-uno-…

Selma's is my choice for Chicago Style pies in the OC. I much prefer it to BJs. The restaurant is good for families--they have a game room for kids-- and has a real postive vibe for all involved (clean, good young staff, happy people). We usually get the Pedal to the Medal (everything) pizza and eat leftovers for days after. Also, the Tap Room next store is a beer treasure spot for Orange County. Go to Selma's, pig out, drink lotsa beer and Dig It.

Consistently great food but the worst service of any restaurant around! Come on Selmas hire some servers who care!!!!

  • Anna D.

Still just okay, but I am happy they added the Tap Room and expanded their beer selection. Actually, I think I prefer their beer, and the way they categorize the selection on their menu far more than I prefer the food. I wish I would have revisited my earlier review before ordering the Chi-Tower beef sandwich; it's still not that good. The Tap Room is the only place we sit now, but I hate that most of the tables have backless stools. I also have had a couple experiences where I am so uncomfortably hot inside that I rush through to escape to somewhere with AC. They have just started renovating the old pizza place in the Ladera Ranch Albertson's shopping center to open a new location soon, so with my husband's beer and pizza obsession, I see more Selma's in my future.

I came here last night just on a whim for dinner. We sat on the patio, got there at 6:10 and didn't leave until 8:15. There were only 3 adults and one child and it was the SLOWEST service ever. HORRIBLE. A table next to us was complainign about the same thing and after they left, their table wasn't cleaned off even by the time we left. Food was good, not excellent but service is what will keep people coming back or tryign another place.

Went here for a quick beer and bar food. I ordered their house special tots (Basically fries w/topings [avocado, bacon, cheese, etc]) & the works pizza deep dish. The Tots were mediocre but the pizza was not bad.

Our family loves Selma's. It's a casual, family-friendly place that serves great food -- perfect! I especially like the BBQ chicken salad -- it has lots of goodies in it and is really delicious and filling. The kids really enjoy the food from the kids' menu, and hubby likes their terrific selection of beer, which frequently includes Pliny the Elder and other fabulous IPAs.

Didn't care for this place at all. Ordered the Santa Margarita pizza. It wasn't great, sorry to say it wasn't even good. I don't even like cpk but I have to say even their frozen margarhita pizza is better than the pizza served here. No liquor here only beer and wine. Our server Tim was very friendly. Pizza took forever to come out thou.

This place should remove the word Chicago from its name. There is nothing Chicago about their pizza. Unless you compare it to pizza huts in Chicago, perhaps. Very uninspired dish pizza that bares no resemblance to Chicago pizza.

This place is great! I have been here a few times, and find it hard to compare to other establishments. I will start with that the pizza is so good, and the thick crust delivers! It is so filling and full of toppings. My personal favorite is their Italian chopped salad. Equipped with chunks of fresh cheese, and delicious salami! Lastly they have "pizzokie"esk' desserts, that are so delicious and you have several cookie options to choose from.

The panini is the only reason i come here. The most aggravating thing about this place is the service. The company i work fie has one word one we come back late from work, "Selma's". No matter what time you go 11am or 2pm, expect to have about an 1 1/2 hour lunch. The servers are nice but it is ridiculous to hunt someone down to pay your tab in an empty restaurant. 4 stars for the panini, 1 star on the service.

The food is good but what makes this place 5 stars is the Tap room. The service is friendly and they have an extensive beer menu which changes weekly. A couple times a month, Selma's has events such as keg tappings which are good excuses to mingle with other beer heads.

Two words... PIZZA PIE. Probably one of the best pizza related items i have ever eaten and i eat tons ( bagel bites, hot pockets, frozen pizza, new york pizza, chicago pizza, disneyland pizza, school cafeteria pizza etc.) But seriously i chomp on some delicious pizza joints as well. I would give this local favorite 5 stars but my last outing was off put by waitresses who were probably high or just blowing it big time, they messed our order up 3 times! they even messed up the complimentary dessert they gave us for messing up our order. Anyways.. they are lucky the food took the integrity of this place past their amateur level. I will go back, and probably get more free stuff if the same peeps are working. But in the end, check out Selma's THE FOOD never disappoints.

We have been to Selma's maybe 3 times in the last few weeks, primarily to enjoy the selection of beers in the tap room. They always have something new and interesting on tap, but if you're a Bud Light kind of beer drinker, this place is not for you. If you like your beers to taste of something, stop on by. We have enjoyed the atmosphere there and have been in until closing before and not found it pushy. The bar staff are knowledgable and happy to make some recommendations whether you're new to craft brews or a more hardy veteran. They usually have around a dozen on tap and many more in bottles, but there's usually something I haven't tried before. As with most places with interesting beers, don't expect to pay $3 for a draft, it's pricier than that but I've always preferred quality over quantity and 2 is plenty. On the food side, the portions are good and I love their pizza (one with Alfredo sauce is particularly tasty).

We love Selma's. We go often to the RSM location. My husband loves the beer selection. The servers are all great and the food is too. The wait can be long, but they are great about bringing out appetizers for those waiting. It is great to eat at this local restaurant.

If you enjoy craft beer you gotta check out the Tap Room @ Selma's. They have a wide selection of fantastic craft beers and delicious foods to go along with them. Great place to hang out and enjoy good beer, good food and good company

Great chicago pizza and very nice atmosphere. Pricing is decent too. Always busy inside and they have just added on another wing too.

Selma's has great pizza, fabulous beers and absolutely fantastic waiters and waitresses. They are always wonderful to my family, talking to the kids, etc. They ensure that everything is brought out correctly, on time and that customers are satisfied. It's wonderful! Their beer selection (from the Tap Room) is great too! ALways something new on tap, interesting and different. It's heavy on the IPAs (which I do not like) but I always find a beer (or two) that I love.

This place is good if you've never been to Gino's East in Chicago. If you have, you know what Selma's serves ISN'T Chicago style pizza. Not bad for OC though... I guess.

If your a fan of Chicago style pizza you have to give this place a try. My advice when it comes to selecting the pizza toppings, keep it simple. Don't overload it with too many toppings, I suggest 3 max. We tried the works and the pizza felt lost under the mountain of toppings. I highly recommend trying their cold spiral pasta salad. It truly one of best I've ever had.

Went again this past weekend. Ate in the dining area this time. One great thing to note is they have a game room for kids and a dedicated live feed to a TV so you can keep an eye on the kids. Nice touch. The bruschetta was one of the best i've ever had. The bread alone was tasty. Topping had a great balance. Not to much garlic, but plenty to know its there. For Pizza, we had the pedal to the medal again. Did not dissapoint! Was as good as i remembered. The beer list is still awesome! Ballast Point big Eye and a Sierra Nevada Anniversary strong ale. Cant go wrong when those are hard to come by on draft! On a side note the pizza isnt as good leftover, perhaps if you over heated it VS nuking it may make a difference. Still tasted good, but soggy. I think i have a mistress and her name is Selma!

This is definitely a place that you want to eat in at, I've had it to go and then also in the restaurant and its a completely different experience eating it there. The take out pizza is good, but it is much better when its still in the pan. I tried the Hawaiian which was ham, bacon, and pineapple and it was really good. I definitely would recommend it. We did order the BBQ chicken and it looked really good I'm just not a fan of BBQ sauce. They do seem to put fresh tomatoes on the pizza so if you're not a fan just tell them ahead of time or they'll also remind you. The crust is delicious you can eat the entire pizza without any toppings like Parmesan or red chili peppers For dessert i tried the mother ship and it's really not that big maybe 2-4 people can eat it depending on how much u eat. What i like about this place is that you can get different variations on ice cream and you can choose from mint chip, vanilla, or cappuccino. Their cookie flavors are chocolate chip, fudge brownie, and white chocolate macadamia. We tried the chocolate chip , and the texture of the cookie is a bit too gooey and soft for more liking but I'm sure that wouldn't bother some people. Service was okay, sometimes we would need our server and we saw him flirting with some girls but its cool he still checked back with us a lot of the time.

This place was definitely gets busy on a Friday or Saturday. It has a fun atmosphere and great service. Now I am not a huge deep dish pizza fan, so I thought it was just okay and seem to be a little pricey.

I decided to try this place out because I was craving pizza and it was the closest to me. The pizza was terrible! I ordered a regular crust pizza with no sauce, chicken, basil, garlic and mushrooms and it tasted like cardboard. It smelled great but it was terrible, I know many may say it's because I didn't add sauce but I always order it like that at Nicks pizza in costa Mesa and it is so juicy. In fact, I went to Nicks last night and it made up for my bad pizza at Selma's, I thought maybe because Nicks added more cheese to make the pizza juicier, however, there wasn't any more cheese on there than Selma's. The pizza at Selma's tasted like it was made out of frozen pizza dough and it wasn't cheap, it costed me almost $30 for just that pizza. It was the worst pizza I've ever tasted and I will never order from there again, I intend on calling their manager to tell them about my bad experience.

Selma's has converted me. I've never been a fan of Deep-Dish style pizza - I've alway been an NY-style guy, and in fact the past few years have been moving towards the thin crust end of the spectrum. Well now that's all blown to Hell (much like my diet), thanks to Selma's. We've eaten here 3 times in the past 5 weeks. The first time we just ordered sandwiches to go. I ordered the Chi-Tower Beef - Roat beef, cheese, 2 types of peppers, and an Au Jus type of sauce. The beef was too dry, and tasted less than fresh, but the rest was good. 3 stars for that. The wife is a meatball sub freak, so naturally this is what she got. It disappeared almost immediately. She still maintans it was the best she has ever had. The one bit I managed to get without losing a finger was pretty good. 5 stars. The next time we went, I decided I should try what they are known for - the Pizza. We were going to get 2 individual pizzas, but the waiter said we should just split a Medium and customize each half - same amount of pizza for less money. Good idea, but the toppings ended up spilling over and the slices were not cut well. The wife enjoyed her Meatball and Tomato pizza quite a bit. I fell in love with the Pedal To The Medal pizza I got (the works - with meatball, pepperoni, sausage, olives, mushrooms, green peppers, onions). I MAY have gotten a bit carried away with their beers on tap... I forget which kids meal the eldest princess enjoyed. Both Pizzas and the beers were top notch, 5 stars. Third trip almost mirrored the second, with us getting the same pizzas (I couldn't resist) only this time we did just get 2 individual pizzas, but split them with the kids, saving some money there, and I stuck to only 1 beer. Still 5 stars. Service both times we were in was phenomenal. They do try to save you money by having you combine your pizzas, despite their fairly high prices. Their beer board is quite informative, letting you know the alcohol and bitterness of their current tap specials, and the staff is pretty knowledgeable on the rest. Prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for. It is worth it for the rarer, nicer pizza nights out. For the kids, there is a video game room in the back, and it is video taped and televised, so parents can watch their kids and know they are safe. This also provides entertainment, as some kids don't know everyone is watching them.... :) The Breakdown: Food - 5 stars (just not the Roast Beef) Beer Selection - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Prices - 3 stars What to get: - The Pizza, duh! For me, the Pedal To The Metal just rocks! - The on-tap beer selections - a lot of rare items, a lot of local items What to avoid: - The Chi-tower roast beef. Maybe I just got an older batch? We'll probably make this a monthly treat moving forward.

I have been a few times. The pizza is very good. Their version of pizookies are good. The drink selections are good. The sandwich portions are small. I order a 'tower' of vienna beef and it was more of a lump. We will go back for pizza.

Tried Selma's for the first time this past Friday evening with a friend. The Tap Room was pretty fun, with a couple cozy couches & low tables to relax in, along with your standard bar & stools. It was kept very clean and the pizza aroma was so enticing that we decided to eat in there. The wait would have been 45 minutes otherwise. The bar is beer & wine only...it only surprised me because it looked like it would be a full bar, especially since it was set up in a separate room. On the plus side though, the selection of beer was better than I expected. I tried the Doggery Brown Ale and it was very tasty. My friend and I each ordered a salad and shared a small pizza. I tried the sante fe salad and the dressing kept me wanting more. We were told our pizza would take 25-30 min and because of that, I was expecting it to be a super-chicago--deepdish-saucy-cheesy-messy-pick-up-your-fork style pizza and... NO. Like many other reviewers stated...it's just a very thick crust that reminds me of BJ's pizza. It was good, but not what I expected. I'll just have to travel to Chicago ;p The service was great. The atmosphere was loud. It was nice to try.

Selma's has a great staff, great food, and great beer selection! I usually go for their Chicago style deep dish pizzas, which are great! I can never finish a small. Their wings are great and their pasta is great too. They also have a gluten free pizza and beer available as well.

RSM has some hidden gems considering it is the most boring city on earth. Cismontane is the other one. Selmas serves a decent Chicago style pizza and the other food we have tried has been ok. They have a pretty awesome beer selection that keeps us coming back. Staff is friendly and they have an adjoined bar next door.

I love this place! I am a huge fan of Chicago style pizza, the more carbs the better. The pizza here is fabulous. The pasta is just as good (well, there's nothing as good as pizza), and the cheese bread, yum! The decor looks great, it's dim and hip and detailed with brick walls. There's an arcade tucked away in the back, but parents can keep an eye on their kids from their tables because there's a surveillance camera watching the arcade, and the feed sits atop the restaurants corner. I only give it four stars instead of five, because they messed up my order, and by the time they got it right, my husbands food was totally cold. They comped my item though, so we will be back!

Yum. Very good deep dish Chicago style pizza. I've been here several times and I'll be back. 4/5 stars just because I've had better authentic Chicago deep dish pizza, but this place is great. I'll be back for sure.

Good stuff all around here at Selma's. The pizza and salads are yummy and the beer selection is out of this world. Try the Sam's Special Sausage Sandwich - my God, this is good. My only disappointment it that I cannot figure out why they would use different sausage on their pizza (compared to Sam's Special sandwich). The sausage used on the pizza is pretty bad, just need to avoid. Great place for children, but expect a wait as this place is always busy.

My fiancee and I tried Selma's a few nights ago, we were just driving around and felt like pizza so we tried this place. We were pleasantly surprised. We decided to get the Buffalo Wing pizza. It was GREAT! We will definitely go back. The price for the pizza was a little high, ~$18.00 for a medium. If it weren't for this fact we would have given it 5 stars.

As a Chicago native, I take pizza serious. Selma's pizza is about as close as you can find in SoCal to the great Chicago style pizza. Now that they have increased their space, it's even better b/c we don't have to wait too long. It's one of our favorite places to go.

I came her to meet my girlfriend for lunch, she had always raved about it, she was right :) Yummy I had the soup and salad. The salad was amazing it had everything you could want in a plain dinner salad and more. Their soup was delicious as well. And my friend had the oven baked ravioli... amazing. The decor is pretty cool your standard Italian restaurant. The staff was really nice and it was just a good dining experience :)

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D....The pizza was not chicago style, more like copy-cat BJ's style. There was almost no sauce on the pizza and the fresh tomato on top was not seasoned or tasty. Wayyy too much bread and not enough cheese or meat. Bread is not as soft or tasty as BJ's. Don't get me wrong, I am no BJ's booster either, but for the drive I made to get this food, it was not worth the wait or money. I would rather pay out the @@@ to order online from mail order Chicago companies like Lou Malnotti's or Giordanos. Bright spot; The chopped salad was really good. If the drive wasn't so far for me, I would come back for that.

Selma's is among the best pizza restaurants in Orange County. We've found their quality consistently excellent - ingredients are fresh and plentiful. There's no comparison to other pizza joints in the area. Their pasta salad is delicious. Very family-friendly.

The pizza isn't as good as BJs.. but their brownie dessert called the Mother Ship is quite good. Not as good as Yard House's.. but good enough for this place to garner a 3 star rating. This place isn't really worth driving out from out of the city, but inside this city it's a pretty decent choice, and I've eaten here several times back in the day.. edit - the desserts were revamped, and now they offer a small version for 2.95. They are more like BJ's pizookie in different flavors, and the verdict is they are better here. Raising to 4 stars based on this.

    (4)
  • Barry P.

I really like this place. Other than BJ's, I really don't know any other legit Pizza place. This place is sort of out of the way considering there's no freeway exit near it besides the 241. If that wasn't the case, I would definitely go here more often. First off, this place is nice and cozy, and sports a bunch of tv's for all you sports fans out there. There's a bunch of booth seating as well, and the decor is very warm and inviting. This place doesn't have a full bar like BJs, but does offer a variety of beers. Personally, I don't enjoy the taste of beer, but if you're going to go with anything, I suggest Selma's Honey Blonde, which is surprisingly not too bad, and probably one of my top beers, regardless of the fact that I don't really enjoy beer. Ok, on to food. Of the appetizers, the Garlic Cheese Bread, and the Mediterranean Bread is very very delicious. Both come with marinara sauce and is worth every penny. The deep-dish pizza, is Selma's specialty, and they deliver. I've tried about 4 types so far and all have been very good. My favorite, would probably be the Hawaiian and the Meat Lovers, but this would obviously be a personal preference. (I really enjoy pineapple on my pizza =P) The dessert here is also very good. Like BJs, they have a "pazookie"-like dessert, which consists of a cookie and ice cream on top called the Mother Ship for obvious reasons. That really doesn't need an explanation, cookie = good, ice cream = good. The service here is also top notch. So come in for some great pizza, and hang out with friends!

I liked this place. My friends and I were literally cruising around looking for good pizza and, with the aid of an internet enabled phone, found out about Selma's. The people were nice and the pizza hit the spot. I tried the cheese and the Santa Margherita, both good. The garlic on the Santa Margherita made its crust taste a bit like garlic bread, which worked out for me since I had regretted not ordering garlic bread in the first place. I wish it had a bit more sauce on it though. All in all, a nice place with nice staff.

I reviewed this place and was pleased and hopeful to see a manager responded to me. Maybe they actually cared. Maybe they would change and get better and I could go there and enjoy the good food without the terrible service! The manager apologized and said they would work on it and asked for my address and said she would like to send me a gift card so we would try them again. I was up for it and messaged back with my address and was looking forward to maybe finally having a good experience at selma's and writing a new, positive review (if you look at my review on Teddy Bear Cafe, you will see that I did a follow-up review after a good customer service experience). However, selma's poor customer service continued and I never heard back from them again (they never sent a gift card or replied to my message back). I guess that helps me know why the staff can't offer good service if they are being trained by management that doesn't follow up with good service. Bummer.

Selmas makes an amazing pie, i usually order with-out tomatoes. The Anduille sausage is excellent. I usually get the Sam-zone, their definition of a calzone. I like the sausage and jalepenos. The beer selection is excellent so many beers hard to decide. The kids love it, especially now that they have a game room... They even have a TV so you can keep an eye on your kids while in the room. The kids love the personal pizza and the grilled cheese. A must have both locations do a wonderful job.

The pizza is all right - it is just okay. But what really gets me is the service. We have been here at least three times that I can remember, only to languish at the table waiting for our check, or our beer, etc. And it's not even busy - at all! This last time, the pizza came out on the cold side - it had most definitely been sitting around for a while. Again, it was not busy so there's no excuse. The whole staff seems to still be in high school and they sure act like it. Maybe if they hired more mature individuals the service would improve. In the meantime I'm moving on to exploring other pizza joints, no need to be disappointed again with so many other options in the area. Try Santora's Pizza instead.

I have mixed reviews on Selma's. Pizza is a treat, we go when we have been super good. The first time we went there, I was blown away, delicious delicious delicious! Deep dish, plenty of toppings, not too much cheese. The next time we went there, ordering the exact same thing, there was NO sauce on the pizza, WTF??? The third time(and probably the last), same pizza, but we asked for extra sauce, and it was yummier, but they messed up the order and put toppings only on half when it should be on the whole pizza. So sadly, I think it's the last time. Selma's you wowed us once but crossed us twice. Good bye!

I use to think Selma's was a great restaurant but after my recent experience I'll never consider them a place to go. They do a GREAT promotion were they will help you raise money for a fundraiser. They will donate 20% of every table bill they make that day, and donate it. Well personally my girlfriend recently did this for her Breast Cancer Fundraiser and research.. Made a Facebook event about it and everything. Had over 20+people we know come in for this fundraiser. The next day, Selma's sends an email to my girlfriend stating that since they didn't make that day's goal they can't donate. After much heated arguing and debating they agreed to cut a check for $50. I feel completely used and mistreated. Since than my friends and family have not returned due to there complete stack of lies. Which is unfortunate for them since BJ's brewer just opened up about 2 blocks from them and THAT restaurant is by far WAY better food service and they LOVE to support fundraisers. If you support breast cancer awareness and research for the cure, I'd suggest never eating at such a restaurant that they clearly don't want to help.

Good family destination. We have gone several times and not ever been disappointed by the food. They market the Tap Room aspect but after seeing their beer line up I was fairly disappointed, nothing that unique is present.

I have always ordered to go. This place is always filled with children and well me and kids don't go when I'm trying to enjoy my meal. I've alway had a bad experience when kids are around. They're either standing up leaning over trying to touch your hair with god knows what on their hands or screaming bloody murder in your ear. So therefore I order to go to enjoy my pizza at home with the friendzies. My friends all love it when I order pizza from Selma's. Nothing like good company, amazing pizza, and beer! I love their pizza here. Big thick crust. Lots of toppings. Mmm has my mouth watering already. I always get their BBQ chicken and we try diffrent ones from time to time. My pizza is always ready to pick up when I arrive and they're even nice enough to give us breadsticks for when we have to wait a few minutes. That has only happened once though. Price is pretty good. Service seems to he good too. Think I will try dining in one day when there aren't so many kids.

I actually really, really like this place. My boyfriend and I both enjoy going here to get some pizza or a bowl of their minestrone soup. My personal favorite is their deep dish pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. I've also been to BJ's many time and I prefer Selma's.

I went to Selma's last night with a group of friends. I'd have to say that the pizza was pretty good. The only problem i had with it is that it's exactly like BJ's. Oh, and there was a hair in my salad. I'm not the type of person to get freaked out about a hair so i just took it out and kept eating. I had the "Sassy" Santa Fe Chicken Chopped Salad. It was just like the Santa Fe salad from BJ's. Our group shared a large pepperoni pizza. It fed 5 of us. Again, the pizza was good. but i prefer BJ's atmosphere and menu.

  • Conspicuous C.

I am constantly seeking geniune Chicago-style pizza but have yet to be satisfied in SoCal. Nice ambience inside, although the bar seems a little makeshift. The owner is the son of one of the founders of BJ's, and the pizza is similar to that chain. The sausage is a bit more peppery than what BJs uses however, giving it a little more kick. I also had their version of Italian Beef. Unfortunately it turned out to be more of a French dip than the real deal. Like BJs, this is a doughy rendition of Chicago-style pizza that's tasty, but isn't quite the genuine article. If it's local to you, you should get to know Selma's. But I didn't find it distinct enough from BJs to go out of may way to go there *instead* of BJs, which has the whole brewery experience going for it.

    (3)
  • Yvette N.

I absolutely love this pizza. I've only had Chicago style at BJ's, which isn't really authentic and I have a feeling this one isn't that authentic either, but it's really good and I will definitely come back.

For SC, it's pretty damn good. I was impressed. I have never gone out of my way for Chicago-style, I prefer NY, but I ordered take-out for my brood last night and they inhaled it. This beats Sonny's and Romano's in SC, which I believe makes it the best in town.

    (4)
  • Anthony W.

Best pizza I've had in the OC thus far! We did take-out, so I can't comment on the service or ambiance. If we're just rating pizza, it's on a par with Pagliacci's in Seattle. Deep dish yumminess! Not too greasy, lots of toppings, delicious crust, and all speedily made.

After a particularly bad week at work, the craft beer craving overcame me. So, I conned the wife to go back to Selmas so that she could drive and I could get tanked. They've got 5 oz samplers for $2. So, I picked 4 of their draft beers. One of them was so good I decided to have a regular size beer. For $6, it's kind of a gouge. But since it was happy-hour, it was a buck off making it a marginally acceptable $5. After 32 oz of booze the week was distant memory. As far as the food goes, I had the CHI-TOWER beef sandwich. The beef was good quality stuff, marinated decently and contained red peppers. So, it really wasn't half-bad. Not as good as a real Itailian beef, but I have to drive nearly a half-hour to get one of those. The wife had the meatball sandwich. Which she also enjoyed. It's strange, but their sandwiches were better than the pizzas we've had there in the past. Oh ya, the service was fine. But, we got there before they got busy.

Came here on a Friday night before going out with the girls - it was decent pizza - good options on customizing the pizza however you want it. The staff was friendly and the waitress was talkative and joked around with us a lot. There was a wine glass that broke on the ground at the table close by us and they cleaned it quickly and effectively.

Love this place...their pizza is amazing!!! I am a meat lover so of course I order the meat lovers pizza and I wasn't disappointed. My husband ordered an Alfredo pizza, it was delicious. They have a cute little arcade with a camera, you can view the action in the arcade from the dining room on a tv screen (pretty cool for parents). If you're looking for some good pizza and casual environment this is the place.

The pizza here was very delicious. Love the deep dish style. The beer selection was amazing Service was great it was a little pricey, but don't mind paying a bit more for all of the above There was a bit of a wait for a table, but we were there at a busy time of day

Bernie and I went here for our first "date night" since the twins were born. There is no way we would have chosen another place! As always, the sauteed mushrooms were perfect, Bernie loved the pasta and clams, and I went with the sausage sandwich. This was the first time I ordered this sandwich, and it's a winner! The Tangerine Wheat was also cold and delicious! Thank you Selma's!

I love the food! I love the Chopped Italian Salad and The Greek Salad. Yum! It's cozy and the fact that it's crowded says a lot. :) They have an outdoor patio and the bar is so unlike RSM. You feel like you're in a big city, with a neighborhood pub experience. You can tell that management is good to their employees; as their employees are good to the patrons (us)!

  • Athena M.

I've had their pizza, their lasagna, their salads, and their soup. I must say that I have been pleased with all the above. Their portions are so great and if you don't eat a lot, you'll always take something home with you to reheat later. Their salads are always fresh and the size is enough to eat just alone. I've never been here during the evening/dinner time. I always go during lunch and they have daily lunch specials that, for the price, are definitely worth it if you work/live in the area. I work right down the street, so this place is convenient, good food, and good service. However, I live about 13 miles away and I could never see myself driving those 13 miles just to go here. I'm a fan and it's a good place, but not necessarily a place you would go out of the way to have. Overall, if you're in the area, you should definitely give it a try and won't be disappointed.

I had dinner with my family tonight at Selma's in RSM. Wow... I will never eat there again. It was very dirty. I didn't see the food on the seat and it got all over my pants. The floors had food all over them. The arcade games are overpriced and broken. The food was nothing to write home about. I don't think I will be going back anytime soon.

This is our favorite pizza place. My husband loves the tap room. The only thing I would change would be more seating when you are waiting for your table.

Yummmmmmmmmmm never been here after years of living in mission viejo! Went for lunch and I love it when restaurant menus have a half sandwich half salad combo!!!! I ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and wowwwwww it was to die for. I downed it so fast I wish I would've enjoyed it more but it was that good. The house salad is rocking! It comes with garbanzo beans and being a latin woman when we see garbanzos we get all excited like a dog seeing bacon!!! I'm definitely coming back!

The other day I got a hankerin' for some deep dish pizza. After searching for a few minutes I decided to call up Selma's. Now, there isn't anything wrong with their pizza. It's mighty tasty pizza, actually, but for a place that pegs themselves as a Chicago Pizzaria... well... I expect Chicago-style deep dish pizza. That's not what I got. It was good but it wasn't anything more than a BJ's pizza. And BJ's is much closer to where I live. I got a large pizza. Half Well Appointed Pesto, half Hawaiian Trio. My wife and I shared it over two days. It was crispy, flavorful, and all-around just fine. My hopes had been built up after reading the reviews--but it's not Chicago deep dish pizza. It's just thick crust pizza with tomatoes on top. There's also a thinner crust option on the menu. Good--but not great. And, FYI, it's like BJ's pizza. Anyone who says it's not is wrong--wrong, wrong, wrong. And BJ's pizza is a little bit less expensive. Go ahead, look it up! It's far away from everything and everyone (except those that live in RSM) and I'd just as soon go elsewhere--there's nothing that special that would tempt me to head to Selma's again. Nothing's wrong with the 'za here... but nothing's too fantastic about it, either.

I never really eat this far out, but I came here with a gent that I DID like at one point, but this guy is confused in what he wants and is scared of success in dating women. So we re connected and he chose this place. I came in on Jan.1.11 and it was full in the dining room but not in the bar, which is fine because thats where were sat. The girl bartenders are some of the biggest dingbats I've ever seen. They should be happy they are a wine and beer only bar because I bet these bitches couldn't make mixed drinks to save their superfical lives. Took forever for me to get attention. Im not surprised, we were im bumfuck south oc haha. Probably threw them off being an interracial couple LOL. Anyway! Onto the food. I order the "extreme" spaghetti and he had the lots of love lasagna. The garlic bread is BOMB! The spaghetti had to be the most un-extreme tasteless spaghetti I EVER HAD! It was so tasteless I automatically took a trip down memory lane, when our ethnic friends would make fun of our white friends moms cooking, calling it white people food ( this means no seasoning, no taste nothing) Im thinking a old white woman made that and not a mexican chef. Someone with flavor made my dates, meal because that lasagna was sooooooooo goooooood! I wish I ordered that. Oh well I probably won't be having that again since I don't see myself in RSM anytime soon with that indecisive fuck.

Yikes! What a difference a day makes! Well more than a day but what a difference. My girlfriend and I came here as usual and ordered wine and the bruschetta. The bruschetta came out hot and delicious. Our server from the bar was terrific. We then ordered a veggie pizza. A waitress brought it to the table and it was burned, very obviously burned. The crust was black around the edges. We told the waitress we didn't want a burned pizza and we wanted to order another pizza. About 3 minutes later a young woman with a shirt that said "manager" came out with our rejected pizza and told us that this is the way the pizza should be. She said that's how the cheese should look and if we ordered another pizza it would come out the same way. She said the burned parts were just the cheese. I said "no" the burned parts were obviously burned parts of the dough. (Look, I'm NOT a fussbudget, believe me it WAS burned!!).She told us the next pizza would look the same because it was the CHEESE that was black. NO,it was not the cheese! She said we would have to "wait" for another pizza.( It's a pizza for goodness sake, if we were wrong, in the interest of good business sense- make us happy). After she left the table I asked my friend if she thought the underlying message was we were going to wait a LONG time for the pizza as a consequence for returning the burned one. We asked our bartender for the check, canceled our reorder and went to BJ's where our delightful server delivered one DELICIOUS flat bread perfectly prepared pizza. What really disappointed us is that we were insulted. I know what burned looks like. Please don't insult me by telling me that black, charred parts of dough are cooked bits of cheese. Not only will we not be back to Selma's but we will not be recommending Selma's nor encouraging our friends to go there for anything connected with food. (Drinks and service are still great at the pub).

Like another yelp reviewer, we went here because it was in Orange Coast Magazine and some of the best pizza in OC: FAR FROM THE TRUTH! All four of us were thoroughly dissapointed because the pizza just had no taste at all. The crust didn't taste like anything: it wasn't salty, it wasn't sweet, it was just bland. The texture of the pizza was good, but that was it. We doused our pizzas in marinara and ranch dressing to make it taste like anything. This place is extremely similar to BJ's (even in how the pizza is served, how the restaurant looks) except Bj's is much better. The salad we had here was the best thing we had. No joke, all of us went to BJ's directly after we ate at Selma's because we felt unfulfilled.

I have to start by saying the pizza was awesome, 5 stars for sure!! The reason I am giving Selma's the low star review is because the service was NOT good at all the we paid 75.00 for a pizza and a couple beers served by people that did not look happy to be doing what they were doing. I don't mind paying up for food, but when you walk out not having enjoyed your experience and you can't understand how what you ate and drank was so much, it just doesn't work for me. I have to restate, the pizza was amazing. Amazing but very expensive, so if you don't mind that you should go for it. The beer list is pretty good, but also expensive for what you get. I really wanted to like this place and probably wouldn't have minded the high prices so much if the service was a little better.

I use Selma's as my stand by for a great sandwich. I love the Chicken Pesto! I have never been disappointed. The homemade chips and pasta salad are great too! Just be sure to check your order if you are placing it to pick up. I've had a few issues with the order being wrong. But they have always fixed it. I just had to wait a while longer which defeated the purpose of calling ahead.

Good times! This pizza is pretty overwhelming, in a good way. The crust is not thin by any means, it's tall and very satisfying. I guess that's Chicago style - slightly crunchy on the bottom, soft all throughout and large. I'm not an authority on this one as I haven't visited Chicago but I find this pizza quite good. Our group tried the Works Pedal to the Metal pizza. This is a very filling pizza with assorted meat toppings and some veggies. I ate two slices and I was extremely full. This is good, indulgent eating. The place is nice, clean and dimly lit with flat screen tv's playing various games.

Wonderful people, service, food and beer. The staff make you feel at home. Beautiful decor, great ambiance. Prices are reasonable. Separate dining and bar to keep kids and bar crowd apart! A perfect home away from home!

Ordered the thin crust. Toppings were OK, but the dough is definitely from frozen dough - kinda like cardboard with no flavor. Our family of 3 decided we need to continue in our search for our favorite local pizza joint.

Wow! JUST WOW!! I took my family and my Dad here for dinner and we all LOVED it. It was a bit loud one of the evenings and with my a Dad and his hearing aid it made it a bit rough. However we thoroughly enjoyed the beers, pizza, and the Mediterranean bread (OMG!!) You have to get the Mediterranean bread!!! We had a pepperoni pizza and a meathead deep dish pizza along with the bread and beers. My Dad loved it sooo much that he asked us to take him there the following night for dinner. Selma's is my new favorite pizza place, and it helps that it is just down the street too!

After living in Rancho for almost 7 years we thought that maybe it was time to deviate from the usual Round Table/Pizza Hut route and try a place that is literally within dog walking distance to our place. We chose a "Pedal to the Metal" (fancy name for a Supreme) Chicago style pizza to go. Selma's makes a good pie, pretty much the same in flavor and quality to BJ's. The sauce was really good and they didn't skimp on it, which I really appreciate. The toppings were tasty but I didn't really dig all the tomato chunks on top and scooped them aside. We are typically "skinny crust" kinda folks so deep dish is a great big carb loading decadence for us and at most happens once a year. As for price point - basically around the same as you would pay for a Round Table pizza, except that with the deep dish component you are actually getting a little more for your buck. The service itself (phoning in the order, timeliness of the finished product) was smooth. From what I could see, Selma's is a pretty happening place. At 6:30 on a Saturday there were people milling around outside waiting for a table. The dining room decor and ambiance seemed comfortable but alas, in my opinion pizza is a dish best served at home. That pizza was kind of heavy and if I ordered again I might rethink the walk and take the car. Overall, a good pizza. If I feel like carb loading on pizza in the future, looks like Selma's is the place.

This is one of my regular spots for lunch. The lunch specials are great. I usually have the spagetti marinara. However, I've had the pizza here as well. The deep dish pizza isn't the greatest, but is very similar to Bj's pizza. However, the Chicago style pizza pie was very good. I order it with pepperoni and sausage. I really liked the sauce they used along with the sausage. This place has gone through it's upgrades and looks really good. Being orginally from Chicago I have to say this place makes a good Chicago pizza!

It had been quite some time since I last ate here. I've never had much of a problem with the food, though their salads are terrible. My issues have always been with the staff and the speed of service. I used to come here once a week with some work friends for lunch. We had to stop because it takes sooooooo loooooonnnggggg to get your food that we sometimes had to get it to go lest we take longer than an hour. More recently, my gf has been craving pizza from here. I didn't have an qualms about returning since we had no time limit on our meal. We arrived and were seated within 10 min, not bad for a Saturday night. Another issue I've had here is that of children. Specifically, those who are allowed to roam free while their parents eat & watch sports. Well, things have gotten a bit worse now that they appear to have expanded the restaurant and added on a mini arcade. It's becoming Ballpark in there, though, thankfully, the food isn't nearly as bad. We ordered a deep dish pepperoni pizza with no tomatoes. I really like their Chicago-style pizza, but I don't like tomato chunks on my slices. As usual, it took a substantial length of time to arrive. I'd normally write this off as their method of cooking pizza, but anything I've ordered here has taken forever to arrive. But it's worth it. The slices are thick, pillowy and cooked to perfection. I'll always love NYC pizza more than anything, but the Chicago version they do here is some good stuff. Two people, two Diet Cokes, one M pepperoni pizza w/ tip: $18.00. Hard to beat that when you can leave fat and happy for so little. Even though I didn't get it this time, I highly recommend the cheese ravioli with meat sauce. They've got good food here, it just takes a long time to get it.

Our first visit to Selma's. Lunch on a lovely beautiful So Cal Sunday afternoon. Service was absolutely outstanding. Our server was Shelby and she was everything this place needs in a server. She new the food well, she easily answered all inquiries and her beer knowledge was also excellent. We ordered the Chips, wings and a Small Hawaiian deep dish pizza. The chips were the wife's favorite. They're delicious, the homemade ranch and cilantro ranch were a great addition to this appetizer. The wings were very well cooked. Nice and crisp and not greasy or fatty. They were however very salty. They have the wing sauce on them as well as a salty seasoning mix. Personally the wife and I can do without all that extra salt. The pizza was great. Cooked perfectly, crisp on the bottom and perfect crunchy crust. Sauce in it was decent. It had a great amount of toppings on it. And the fresh Parmesan that they brought for us to put on our pizza was a very nice touch. We are very happy with Selma's and we will be returning soon!!!

We had heard a lot about this place when we first moved to the area and were extremely excited for a good deep dish pizza place, but we found it average and not living up to the hype. When we think of going for pizza this isn't the first place to come to mind. It's a good option if you right there and hungry but we don't go out of our way to go here for lunch or dinner.

Best pizza in town!!! loooove the deep dish! they do not skimp out on the toppings, unlike other pizza establishments that used to be good. Selma's is now the new spot for pizza!!

Selma's was a bit of a let down for me. I was expecting an awesome, flavorful pizza with an inspired pizza selection. Selection seemed pretty good for the pizzas. After some deliberation we landed on the chicken pesto pizza. I opted for Pliney the Elder to drink, which is always awesome. I like the vibe of the place and the extensive beer list. The pizza arrived, and to our dismay was not very tasty. the pizza was very one-note. The pesto was bland and I had to order an extra side of it as well as more parmesan to give it some taste. Chicken tasted unseasoned and the crust was plain. But for this being the second most expensive pizza there, I just expected more. I would be willing to try it one more time, because I believe all restaurants deserve 2 tries before making a true decision on it.

I enjoy going here for a beer and their pizza. Both for me were fantastic. I think the beer is my favorite part. I enjoy getting a variety of different microbrews. Pizza is tasty and fits my style. Pizza styles vary so much. Our Chicago family members love the place and go there to get a taste of home. So, if you like Chicago style pizza then you oughta like this place. We've also had the cheese bread, salad and dessert. Nothing to write home about there, but not bad either. Average. Service has always been prompt and courteous. We'll definitely go back.

we just stopped in here for a quick lunch, it was my first time here, and I really liked this place. Their Chicago deep dish is pretty damn good as are their wings. They have a great beer selection too with a solid variety of dark beers.

The selection of craft beer was phenomenal and the deep dish pizza was delicious. The ambiance was great and the crowd was friendly. There is live music on Saturday night and I was presently surprised at how good the band was. They were a cover band and their selection of music was quite good. Also, the deep dish pizza was delicious. I was shocked that the crust was crisp and the pizza was not greasy. I will go back to this restaurant when I am in the area.

Happened to run into this place. I love deep dish Chicago pizza, so I gave it a shot. Apparently, these people have not ever actually tried Chicago pizza. It's more than just a doughy crust. Mine was greasy, and slightly burnt. The delicious sounding tomatoes they promised had me hoping for a layer of juicy chopped tomatoes, but in fact were just large-ish chunks of tomato, maybe half a dozen per slice, dropped on top of the pizza. All in all a bready, disappointing pie. Staff were very nice. Waited kind of a long time, which only made the burnt parts taste that much more bitter.

Easily the best well made pizza I've had in California. That's a bold statement, but, Selma's really does deliver. This isn't a greasy, fast pizza place. Instead, it's more of the gourmet style pizza, but it's not overly expensive, and it's extremely filling! I've always walked away from a meal here in a happy state of food coma. You can get a few different styles of pizza, ranging from artisan thin crust, normal (which is pretty hearty), to deep dish (which is almost like eating lasagna, it's so thick!) and all are delicious. I highly suggest splitting a pizza! There's a great variety of toppings, such as goat cheese, spinach, shrimp, roma tomatoes, artichokes... Anything you'd need to craft your perfect pizza. They also have a pretty decent selection of their own pizza creations, all of which are very tasty and compliment each other well. I haven't had too many other food items here, except for the chicken fingers, which were rather standard, but they seem to have a pretty nice selection of appetizers, and they have some rather large and scrumptious looking sandwiches too. Their beer selection is really astounding. They have a huge selection of craft brews and specialty beers, an array that would but most gastropubs to shame. They often rotate their tap selection (in fact, you can even see updated photos of their tap selection of their website, which is pretty cool). Generally, at any given time they have a great choice of several brown ales, stouts, Belgians, and IPAs. You won't find any trashy liquor store beers here. That said, their prices aren't full of the pompous mark-up that other gastropubs have; for instance, they have Russian River Supplication (NEVER take it off the menu, please!!!) for I believe about $10, which is extraordinary for such a rare bottle! Haven Gastropub sells the same for $24! It's fantastic that they have such fine beers here for cheaper, and that alone makes me come back almost every week. It's also great to note that they have gluten free pizza available, as well as some gluten free beers and ciders, which is a welcome thing when you have friends that have that requirement. Finding a good place for a drink and grub can be hard for them, and I'm glad Selma's tries to accommodate them. Service is generally pretty quick here, but there are times when it seems like they haven't had enough staff on hand during peak hours, causing our servers to not be as attentive as they could. A few times my groups have had to wait over ten minutes to check the check after we've finished our meal, and their has been an occasional pizza topping mistake. Despite that, the staff seems pretty welcoming, and moderately versed in their beers selection, enough to direct you in the general path of a beer you'd like if you describe what taste you're looking for. I also rather enjoy the ambiance here, especially in the bar area. Never too loud really, unless there's a big sports game on, and the lighting is usually kept at that nice, somewhat dim and relaxing level. I've also never had to wait to be seated, (they seem to have enough tables even during weekend nights) I'd highly recommend Selma's to anyone looking to have a great pizza and beer experience!

4 stars for the pizza- would have been 5 if not for the 7 minutes on hold for a take out order. This has happened twice- very friendly & professional sounding person answers the phone - I tell him/ her I want to place an order to go- put on hold for 7 minutes- the same person comes back on the phone & says the same thing- like he/she forgot I was put on hold so I have to repeat what I said the first time. There's no "oops sorry about that". First time this happened I thought maybe they were just super busy- it's Saturday night & there's a game on. Walk in to pick up my order & there are four customers in the place. Last night - same thing. Really shouldn't be out on hold & forgotten- think of how many customers who would just hang up. Pizza is good but expensive. House salad consist of lettuce, tomatoes, garbanzo beans & croutons & dressing for $7.25!! Not worth it.

I don't understand why everyone (including my family) loves this place. The dough tastes like they pulled it out of the freezer and popped it in the microwave for a minute and a half, threw on some questionable vegetables and cold sauce and - voila! - pizza de Selma's. Mediocre pizza, at BEST. Reasons for the two stars? 1 star - "The Mothership" dessert. Think of BJ's pazooki. It's basically that with less cookie flavors. Try white macadamia nut cookie. YUM! 1 star - Incredible tap room and beer selection. I ALMOST want to give them 2, but then I remember they're a pizza joint. It's best not to mislead my fellow Yelpers.

My wife and I had been home searching and stumbled across this place. Which wasnt hard to do considering its conveniently located off RSM parkway. We ventured in on a early sunday evening and the place was pretty busy. The place had a nice atmoshphere with booths, tables, and some tvs. I could see myself stopping in more frequently for some beer and sports once we make the move to our new home. -Service was very friendly -Pizza was pretty good - we ordered deep dish pepperoni with all the veggies -Cheese sticks - these were very good with the marinara sauce overall we enjoyed Selma's and will come back again. Rating 3.7

Love this place, specially since they have opened up the Tap Room. Only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is because crust not really true Chicago style and wish they had Wi-Fi. Great mix of beers, friendly staff and good food. What else can you ask for. Only strange thing is that I have to specifically show up in the 'nearby' list/map. At least on iPhone. Def worth your business.

I went to Selma's Chicago Pizzeria ( selmaschicagopizzeria.com ) since one of my best friends lives within the area. It was such a great excuse! haha This is one of the BEST pizza places that I've been to. We ordered the Bruschetta Favorito and garlic cheese bread to start. Then, we ordered the BARBECUE SPECIAL pizza. This pizza's got grilled chicken, BBQ sauce, red onions and cilantro. We were very full at the end of the meal. Plus, we had plenty of leftovers.

This place would be great if this were not a doubling as a Day Care Center. My husband and I love this place, when we can get a seat inside the bar area. The past 3 times we have gone in we have had to turn around and walk out because of no seating in the bar. This would be fine if it was full of adults, but when we went in last night, half the tables (in the bar) were filled with adults and their children. The restaurant has a seperate room for the bar and another room for the restaurant. The restuarant had plenty of tables where families could sit. After 7 p.m., I see no reason why the restaurant should allow small children into the bar area. Especially when the parents are inebriated and letting children roam wild in the bar. Other than that, wings and thin crust meat pizza is great.

After finding this place on facebook based on their beer selection, I was looking forward to giving their pizza a try... now, it was good... but not as good as I had expected or hoped for... their food was extraordinarily bland... not bad... just not great. The staff was awesome! Top notch, friendly, attentive, etc etc... but now, knowing what to truly expect... I would go back if I was in the area to watch some football or for a few tasty brews... but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back...

First off, I am NOT a deep dish pizza kind of guy. However, with all the reviews on this spot, and it being close to my house, I decided to give it a go. From the outside it looks like everything else in Rancho. Plain tan building with a small sign out front. Yet, when you step inside the joint, the decor is a whole different ball game. Lights are turned down low, brick walls, a few TVs hanging from the ceiling, old Chicago style pictures and trinkets up on the wall.... nice. Oh there is even some outdoor seating! I told the girl there it was my first time, she goes through how they make their pizza and recommends a small meat type for me. I get the small, but just do pepperoni and garlic. After 12 minutes or so, our it comes in a massive deep dish pan still cooking. Smelled great! I start in on the pizza and OH YEAH BABY taste buds are popping! Good flavor, the crush was very nice, however the toppings were not.... how do you say, many? lol There weren't many toppings on it which was slightly disappointing because I like my garlic. :( Service was good. She checked on me 3 times while I was eating, refilled my soda and even let me go behind the counter to get a picture of this cool beer sign. Oh and they even gave me a "Thank You Mint"! Yay! That's two places this week I got a gift from when I left! See attached images. :P Easy to find, right off the 241, clean, tasty food... I can't give it a 5 as I just don't care for deep dish. I can't give it a 3 because it's better than "A OK"... so to you Selma a 4 is awarded.

Yum. Great pizza and huge beer selection. You can choose the style of crust: artisan (extremely thin), thin, and Chicago (deep dish). We had a thin Margarita pizza and it was crisp, moist, and hot! The server was attentive, polite, and on the ball for refills. Overall, great experience and lively atmosphere. I'd definitely go back.

The service was good, but the Pizza IS NOT Chicago style. Yes they serve deep dish but the crust,, crunchy, airy, a little greasy, is what makes Chicago pizza famous. Dont get me wrong its a decent pizza pie but Chicago it is not.

Come on now, Pizza is AWESOME. Although I like Round Table for my 1st choice, I give Selma's my 2nd vote for daily pizza choice. For Birthday's and special occasions, I like Selma's because the atmosphere is better, the food selection is better, and they have great service. True crusty style deep dish with the perfect amount of crispy oil on bottom of the crust. If you go, order the cookie dessert with ice cream. It has a special name that I cannot recall. Yummy.

We have been here several times and it has two distinct sides - one family friendly side and one great bar side. Okay on the family friendly side we really did not like the service - it happened several times - we had to wait and wait and wait for service to continue. Ordered a salad with chicken - they forgot the chicken and couldn't find the waitress until the salad was gone. Another time got a really bad pizza which was cold and AGAIN couldn't find the waiter. SOOOOOO we decided we wouldn't go back BUT (and this brings me to the 5 stars) the bar side is AMAZING!!! The bartenders make sure you have your food and your drinks - Spencer is the BEST!!! So now we love the food and the service and the ambiance - sometimes they open the whole side and you can sit and enjoy the breeze (when there is one in RSM) . GREAT FOOD BUT GO TO THE BAR SIDE IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE AND IF YOU WANT WHAT YOU ORDERED! We will go there again and again - glad we found it! Sorry but I had to deduct a star for the bad experiences on the family friendly side.

We've been going to Selma's for the past 6 months - not sure why we didn't try it sooner. They have an excellent, diversified menu, good service, reasonable prices, and terrific food. We went to the nearby BJ's which recently opened, and while eating their overpriced and so-so offerings, said to each other, "This is kind of like an over-priced Selma's." Guess we won't be going back to BJ's, as long as Selma's is around.

Carry-out deep dish pizza review only: THERE IS A GOD; Rancho Santa Margarita doesn't completely suck ass because of the crafty cook at this Chicago pie establishment. The mayor should send you guys bottles of bourbon (which you would then of course share with me, in exchange for this unheard of 5-star food review in cookie-cutter RSM). Jackie Palumbo sends his regards; will return weekly. Ps - I did see all the fine beers you had on tap and it intrigued me, as well as the Firestone Brewery (one of my favorite breweries) mirror hanging by the bar. Good work.

Ok...I will relent and say that there are a few places out here in Rancho Santa Margarita that are worthwhile. Selma's happens to be one of the few places. As the name of the restaurant indicates, Selma's serves up "Chicago" style pizzas. I put quotations around Chicago because, really, it's not true Chicago style pizza but what it is is a pretty decent deep crust pizza - it's very similar to BJ's but better. Heaped with toppings and cheese and with a crust that was perfectly doughy and crispy, the pizza is pretty good. I also had a chance to try out the hot wings and sauteed mushrooms, which I thought were both better than the pizza. Overall, I'd give the food 3 stars. The additional star comes from the Tap Room, which is stocked with a great selection of beers and lots of big televisions. Oh, one interesting thing is that you can't "check into" Selma's if you're actually here. For some reason the location is set for a few miles up the road. So...what's going on you check in cheaters?! The cat's out of the bag now.

I really dig the Tap Room at Selmas in RSM! Constantly changing beer selection with 20 taps and lots of bottles. Mike and Eric are passionate about the beers they select. Bartenders are always cool. Cask Nights about once a month are always fun. Draft beer as it was always meant to be.

Wanted to make an update to my original review. I originally did not care for the pizza at Selma's the first time I went. A manager from Selma's reached out to me through Yelp and offered for me to try their pizza again, on the house. I went again tonight and tried the traditional crust pizza with extra sauce and I'm now a fan! I thought it was really cool that the manager made this offer and cares about customers. Check this place out for sure!
